I disagree with you on the "backyard breeder" comment . Every reptile breeder started off in a bedroom or spare room with a pair of 5 dollar what ever type of reptile or amphibian they liked or a wild caught out of the back yard what ever type of reptile or amphibian they they liked and grew from their. People should be encouraged to learn as much about the care of the species they want to work with and go from there .

Sorry I got a little confused with the quotes and mistook what you were saying . After I reread what you had written it realized it was not in the manner of backyard breeder ive been seeing a lot of lately . Its a thing in the ball python community a lot of people are complaining about back yard breeders crashing the market . The guy with 10 or 15 frogs or snakes is not going to hurt the market if he or she breeds and sells responsibly . What is hurting the reptile community is the amount of infighting we do . Some of us forget were we came from and if it wasn't for one person or group that told us about this book or that website we would have never bred anything . More people keeping and breeding most reptiles and amphibians is a good thing . This hobby is large but not large enough . New laws being drafted , tighter restrictions as to what can be owned in different states and the government wanting permits . Some of these things we have brought on ourselves , most of it is unfair bias .We need a larger community of dedicated reptile keepers .

The thing I always recommend is that people get a good understanding of the genetics of the animal they're going to breed, especially with reptiles/amphibians. Even if you breed healthy reptiles, you're going to want to sell them. Problem is a lot of traits that look lovely on their own just turn out looking kind of 'blah' when you mix them together. I can't tell you how many people I've seen breed very pretty snakes together and end up with babies they pretty much have to give away for free (or like 10 for$5), and most end up being used as feeders or going to people who just don't care because they're so cheap...

Nobody wants to hear that they shouldn't breed because blah, blah, blah...............even if the blah, blah, blah is the truth. Ask all the questions you want, but if a breeder declines to answer, deal with it. Just say thanks anyway and move on. When we started, there wasn't anyone to ask, so we did the work ourselves. Research & common sense and years of experience with many reptile & amphibians was our starting point. Trial & error will be part of it even if you get someone to walk you through it step by step........everyone's geologic areas are different and so things will need to be adjusted to accommodate those differences. What works for one person won't necessarily work for another. We wish you the best of luck at it though...........Hunter

I know how the breeding is done, I am a breeder of other animals myself, I just need specifics, which I have found with a very small amount of people will tell me some specifics. I'm going to be getting a lime albino male so I'll have a strawberry and lime albino male, and sam blue female. I'll work on getting them big and wait the 1 to 1 1/2 years to breed, and then set up a rain chamber, which there are good tutorials on everywhere. I think the only reason people have ahard time breeding pacs is because they require an INCREDIBLE amount of patience and also will require you to deal with disappointment sometimes and just keep pushing forward and trying again. I really don't think the breeding will be difficult, just time consuming and trial and error. I've got a great idea for initial set ups just for growing, and then I'll start researching more and more on rain chambers. If I can get eggs that turn into tads, I'll be happy. I'm just going to need some friendly HELP, which I have found and hope to find more of. Thanks for your response.
