I have one ADF. He is in this tank with my angelfsih, female bettas, rainbow shark, loaches, one BN pleco female and four ottos. Been set up since Janurary. Normally this is to deep but with all the plants he can rest on does not seem to have a problem. I have been thinking of getting a couple more for the tank.
55 gallons low tech, non co2 natural tank set up with dirt and gravel cap.
I have had the ADF for over a year. He started in a 5 gallon planted tank.
Hi,
this is my ADF-setup:
~ 33 gallons, 20 ADFs, snails and a few cherry shrimps.
I took my three out of the 55 and moved them to a 6 gallon. Need to add more plants. Oh and one of my new ones is a female.
Picture taken with my ipad. Not bad. lol
Hi Angie,
please be sure to upload new pics as soon as the new plants are in. Iīm sure the frogs will love their new home
I planted the ones that were floating and I have not decided on what new ones to get.
Still needs some work on the plants but getting there.
Got him for my son which I will be taking care of. He was going to go into my 55 gallon tank, but I read that it was to tall for him/her. I had this 3 gallon tank sitting around. That is Java fern, anubs ( I think that is the spelling of it). I had left over in my 55 tank. I have been having fish for over 15 years now, but this is my first frog.
I have two in this 5 gallon, pretty sure it's a male and a female. I'm trying to decide if a terra cotta pot would make a nice addition because they've both been living inside the skull for the most part.
Hi Aspen,
a terra cotta pot would be a nice idea for sure- those frogs really like to hide. Also, they become more "brave" if they have enough hiding spots. Live floating plants such as hornwort, pennywort, duckweed, frogbit etc. would be a great addition as well, as they provide shady spots (frogs donīt like bright light), help with maintaining a good water quality by consuming nitrates and the frogs love to rest on the surface hanging on floating plants. Fake plants donīt do anything for the water quality, but the frogs donīt really care as long as they have structures to hide in. Maybe you could replace them by easy-to-grow live plants like Anubias sp. or else or mix with live plants.
Itīs great that you keep your frogs in a decent-sized species-only tank
I donīt see a heater- please keep in mind that those are tropical animals. The temp should be at a more or less stable 74-79° F. Cool temperatures or big day-to-night swings might harm them at least over the long-term.
That would explain why they run whenever I turn on the LED light. I'll have to look into getting some fake floating plants for now as I'm not confident in my plant keeping abilities just yet.
I have a heater that I bought, but had to take out because when I was testing it (pre-frog) the temp was getting up to 82° on the lowest setting. It stays between 78-80° anyway and I might need a way to cool it off when the summer really kicks in. I may need to break it out this winter depending on the unpredictable weather.
Ok, thatīs warm enough
I would consider cooling the tank if the temp hits 86°. Maybe you can trade your heater in for a smaller one before the next winter. There are some models that can securely heat a 5 gal tank. But itīs good that you tested yours before putting in the frogs
6 gallon tank-5 adf's- thinking about ditching the rocks and getting Tahitian moon sand - they eat out of the shell. also I would like to get a regular filter set up. The one that came with the tank seems too strong for the froggies as it sucks them across the bottom. But this one I bought doesn't seem to be cleaning the water very well. I have only had the tank for a week. I am doing water changes every 2 days to get through the cycling process. Any tips would be great. Thanks.

Hi,
I wanted to show you how my tank looks now:
In reality, the lights arenīt that bright (long exposure time).
One frog died a few months ago, but the other 19 are doing very well
Amphibians kept:
9.10.3 Hymenochirus boettgeri
2.4.0 Xenopus laevis
0.1.0 Hypselotriton orientalis
3.0.0 Hyloxalus azureiventris
4.1.0 Pipa parva
2.1.2 Bombina orientalis
1.0.0 Ceratophrys cranwelli
2.2.0 Bombina orientalis
This is my 10 gallon tank with 4 ADF. The first 2 pictures are of the tank when it was first set up and the next 2 are pictures of what it looks like now. The frogs love all their hiding places but they do come out often during the day, especially when they see me. Two will eat out of my hand. My first 2 frogs came from a Hallmark store in a 4" cube. I moved them into a 1.5 gal and then this 10 gal. There are 4 neons in there as well.

Very nice. I have redone my 10 gallon with my 2 ADF's.
Thanks Angie! By the way, I am 70 and I love my ADFs!

This is my 4 gallon ADF tank. I had two two in there for just over a year but recently bought a third. Don't worry, no more
And here's the gang, left to right, Gremlin, Hidey and Dotty..
Hi,
also ADFs enjoy a large floor space. Whereas 4 gal can suffice for three frogs, the shape of this tank isnīt adequate...

Hello How would I be able to tell that they are not happy with their floor space? I don't want them to be mad at me.
This one was intended as a permanent home, I've had the two original frogs 2 years in September and they've shown no signs of stress or illness. At the time I bought them, there was a whole website dedicated to housing ADFs in this type of tank (which I notice has now disappeared) so I assumed this set up would be ok.
