I'm not 100% sure that is the cause, but try adding some water and see if the bubbles become less. if they do, you have your answer. it's kind of the same principle of a fish tank with a filter hanging on the back. when the water goes low, bubbles are created from the churning action. top the water off and the bubbles go away.
