Acf question, please reply!

Hello, my male had been happily amplexing with my female for 3 days now. She hasn't laid eggs yet, and I know she could just not be interested. But is it possible that she's too old to lay eggs? Is that possible for ACF's? Once, they're a certain age do they just not lay eggs any more???

If you try to breed your clawed frogs and do not have egg production within
two days, i would separate the two and reintroduce them later because its
uneeded stress, i dont think that ACFs stop laying eggs, i would research it
more on the forum and Google

According to various sources, including the Guidance on the Housing and Care of African Clawed Frogs, by Barney Reed, it is highly unlikely that successful breeding will not take place until the frogs are between 18 and 24 months of age. Yes, there are exceptions. On average a male ACF reaches sexual maturity at 12 months. You should separate the male and female attempt amplexus but no egg laying occurs. Separation should be for about 8-10 weeks. Both males and females will call so be prepared for a loud duet when separated.

I wonder if the obsessive mating in captivity is because these frogs figure out that there are no predators and food is basically 'on demand'.

I mean, may as well focus on mating when there's plenty of food and no one is trying to eat me, right?

Maybe. My male Pacific Chorus frogs croak so constantly it seems like they've never seen a predator before, and they don't have a tough time hunting the pinhead crickets I give them, either. Also, they have hopped on top of each other more than once, but they just ignore each other and hop, pushing the other off.

same here, my Fbts always amplex eachother and are just waiting for a female to come into the tank
