Hi guys,
This is my first time on the frog forum, so i apologize in advance for any mistakes i make. I just got my first whites tree frog yesterday, from petco. She is in a 10 gallon tank, with coconut fiber substrate, 2 live plants, many fake plants, and a log hide. She also has a big water bowl. The temps are about 81 degrees in the day, and about 70 at night. I tried feeding her crickets, but she was obviously not interested in them, and made no attempt to eat them. I tried the same thing today, with no luck again. I know its his first week, so i'm not all that worried. However, I would like to know if this is normal, and if I could improve his care and habitat in any way. Also, I would like to know when I should start to worry about her not eating. Thank you very much.

Hi there
Its normal for pets to be stressed for the first week of being new to another pet owner.
The only thing i would change is the size of tank once she is older, if she is under two
inches, then the ten gallon is fine for her. once she is over, a 20 to 30 gallon is perfect
But if no progress continues, check out Grifthegreat's page on problems in the terrarium.
Good luck with the frog!

Thank you very much. I figured that she was just a little stressed out. Should I just let the crickets roam around in her tank, or should I attempt to hand feed her again? Thank you.
You can let a few crickets roam around the tank and see if he will eat them. I have one frog that refuses to eat from my hand and will look AROUND my hand to find a cricket in his bowl. Another idea would be to put a little glass bowl in his tank for the crickets and let him eat from there. Crickets can't climb out of the bowl and you'll be able to see how many he actually ate.
You have to be careful with crickets though, you don't want to leave them in the tank with him overnight because they will bite him and cause more stress for him.
Just like Bombina Bob said, a 10 gallon should be fine for now if your frog is still tiny. Whites LOVE to climb and be up as high as they can in the tank.
Good luck and welcome to the forum! There are some great people here with lots of experience and good advise!

Hi Charley,
I see your questions have already been answered
May I add:
Provide a day/ night light cycle- feed the frogs just before the lights go out.
You might cover three sides of the tank- it will help the frog feel more secure.
Try not to handle the frog unless absolutely necessary.
Remember to use:
de-chlorinated water in the soaking dish and to dust the crickets with a good Calcium and Vit supplement.
Enjoy your new frog and Welcome to Frog Forum

Welcome . You've gotten some great answers. Keep that humidity up around 70-75% and he'll be nicely hydrated too . This will also help with shedding. Congrats on your new frog. Whites are adorable.
