Hi Guys,
First post. I am looking for helping sexing my 9ish month old. Sometimes it catches prey and makes an aggressive croak with food still in its mouth. Other than that, very relaxed and burrows a lot. Its tank right now is fairly small and feel its about time to increase. Does having a larger tank (half land half water) promote the best growth? I feed weekly, but not daily. I do not want to make the frog obese but do not want to stunt its growth. Open to insight!
Thanks
pete

Its 100% male and a true P. Edulis. Verry cool frog![]()
Looks awfully small for a 9 month old... Did you only feed once a week when s/he was a baby as well? Because babies need to eat every day. Once a week seems like it would cause stunted growth.
You should post some pictures from the side and from above and more people will be able to give educated guesses.
Also- is s/he a dwarf or giant? How long is s/he SVL?
About my palm. I purchased it when it was about the size of half my thumb. I fed daily up until it showed heavy interest in rodents. Now I feed a rodent once a month (hopper) and every week I feed a assortment of worms/crickets/dubia-roaches/superworms. I let it eat as much as it wants in a 5 min period. Typically can be 10-20 insects.
Here are some photos taken a few months ago when it was in a different enclosure.

I agree with Daniel. Looks like a male to me![]()
agree with Daniel too! very pretty frog!
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
Thank you. Do you believe "he" is small for 9 months? He was so small when I got it. Is he the type to grow large?
My male is 8 months old, picked him up at the end of oct and was told he was 3 months old he was about 3-4" when I got him and in 5 months he was 6.5" last time I checked![]()
He looks great. Yeah, when I bought mine he was maybe 1.5/2 inches max. Just a small frog with a big head lol All he wanted to do was eat. I may try to increase the food. Im trying to colonize dubia roaches now. Hopefully they will be a plus. But should I increase the rodent feeding? I only do it about 1x month now.
1X a month is perfect for rodent-feeding schedule.
And your boy probably won't get as large as the other pixies here. He looks to be a dwarf frog, which is a subspecies from Tanzania (please someone correct me if I'm off! lol). He wont get as big, but his lovely pattern will stick around for life![]()
Nice male Edulis. Keep in mind that every frog is different and some do not reach their full potential. Average size for Edulis is 5" to 6".
Well for the record, I purchased him a year ago from Backwater. I read alot of negative things about them. As of today, "sam" told me by E-mail he is a P. Adspersus. And that he is large for 9 months, surprisingly large. And that I should keep doing whatever I am doing because he looks great and will continue to grow. Is that true or BS? I know he looks good, but Im talking about growth. This is also coming from a company that has no phone number, which I find very unprofessional.
Sounds like complete BS to me. A male adspersus of your frogs age would be MUCH larger.

That is a cart load of horse$hit. Mine is 10 months and 7 inches. I agree that either this is a dwarf or has been stunted.

The second pics look like a dwarf to me and with that story sounds like u been hadhappend to me with my first pixie.
I ordered my first Pixie about a year ago from BackwaterReptiles, and I got ripped off as well. I e-mailed Sam and told him it was the dwarf species he'd sent me, even sent several pics and links of giant vs. dwarf to show it was truly a dwarf. He gave me a major line of BS, too, saying it was 100% adspersus like it said on the website. He said it was wild caught (not mentioned on the site either) from Mozambique. He refused a refund or to take the frog back. This guy is a drop shipper who doesn't know a thing about what he actually sells. The frog I ordered was a male giant, and what arrived was a female dwarf that only grew to just under 4" in total. At least yours is male, so it will get a bit bigger than mine did. But still, it can be disappointing to have your heart and wallet set on one thing and you end up getting another.
