Well, after a few days in the water (and FINALLY a poop), he is up and active. There are some crickets in there for him (and food for the crickets). I tried to offer some meal worms last night. The little buggers wouldn't stay on the lid I put them on! (Anyone know how to train a meal worm to sit?) He went for one that had crawled off, missed, then didn't seem interested. I want to offer a good variety. I read something about earth worms...if you buy them at bait shops they may have chemicals and or dye on them? How can you tell? I am leery of collecting my own due to pesticides (owner of our property has lawn treated, though we do have a good colony of worms). Oh, and I did take out the moss, I'll save it for when he's bigger and eating from tongs mostly. Also, I would love to be able to have a good selection on hand, but all the mail order suppliers of food items want to sell them in large quantities. I don't have the space (or an agreeable hubby) to that idea...anyone know where I can get smaller amounts or a good way to keep them that doesn't require large space? Thinking of different worms probably. Can always get crickets locally. Hubby WILL NOT go for the roach thing again. Did that when I had frogs before. Didn't go over too well, when container got knocked over. I do believe we caught them all, but there was a roach panic for some time, every time he saw something move, 'IT'S A DAMN ROACH'!
