Didn't have any new frog pics this week. Instead I have these!
Avicularia versicolor
Monocentropus balfouri
Brachypelma vagans
Poecilotheria metallica
Pterinochilus murinus - These are from a WC male and one of the girls produced here a few years back. It was a very largely infertile eggsac. On the plus side just over one dozen slings made it to 2nd instar.
Tapinauchenius gigas. This was my first try at this species and represents the 34th species I've successfully mated and produced!
One of the recent P. pederseni spiderlings
Ceratogyrus darlingi
This is a bitter sweet victory. This Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens spiderling represents the 35th species I've mated and received at least one successful 2nd instar from since 2009. In this case it was literally only 1 spiderling. Only 3 made it to 1i and this is the one lucky survivor. It already has a home on my "keeper slings" shelf. I have a few fresh mature males and some recently molted females so I'm hoping the next GBB sling pics have dozens sitting together and not a lone spider.
A few eggsacs
Poecilotheria fasciata
Hysterocrates gigas #2
Not all are good. Here is one of the biggest upsets so far this year - Brachypelma albiceps
She failed to roll the eggsac properly so I had little hope of anything coming from this.
And another H. gigas eggsac. This time H. gigas #4
This female produced a smaller eggsac with about 50% fertile eggs - Psalmopoeus irminia
This is a new arrival so she hasn't had a chance to form a retreat yet.
The male grabs her females first pair of legs (the antennae looking pair) and holds them in his chelicerae
He held her like this for a few hours while they walked around the breeding cage.
He then flipped around and they began walking in tandem.
The next morning they were like this (sorry about the smudge on the lens)
I'm thinking the pairing was a success, but this is my first attempt with whipscorpions so I have no idea what to expect.
