Hi Everyone.
OK as we know I am just going to be in temp housing for a while
but slowly want to get everything set up so the permanent home will
be ready when she's ready
I have the 18X18X18 Exo Terra
1) Heating pad
a) Is there a difference in the Exo Terra Rain Forest or Dessert pads??
b) For an 18X18X18 tank which size pad (8X8, 10X11 or 11X17) my house is kept at 68.
c) Can I mount the pad on the outside of the glass behind the Exo T Rock Background?
2) Lights
a) I was thinking of running the Exo Light Cycle unit and was wondering could two of them fit on the top of a 18X18? Id like to have one running with day bulbs and one with night bulbs since the house is cooler I want to be able to provide night lighting as well (or will a pad be enough when the house is at 66-68? for night?)
3) Anyone run a mister? I know its not a needed expense especially for a Pac Man but they still need misting and even if its only run a few times a day it will be a nice luxury. I was looking at the Monsoon from ExoT
Yes I know lots of this is not needed but if I can afford it why not give my little friend the most ideal environment possible?
Thanks!
10"x11" UTH will be fine. Use the Rainforest pad because desert pads tend to be hotter. Don't place it behind the background you will lose heat and styrofoam emits fumes that can be toxic when heated.
Lights are not necessary, but with the cool ambuent air in your house they will help. Do not use high UVB bulbs and be sure they are not too bright.
Instead of a mister buy a Zoo Med Hygrotherm and hook a fogger up to it. This unit will control the environment according to your settings. A mister may over saturate the substrate which can make your frog ill.
Thanks Colleen!!
Where do you put your heater?
I do not want to put it on a side of the glass I can see.
Ive been told do not put it underneath.
you put it on a side, and that is why I'm not big fan of UTH![]()
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
Lija so what do you suggest I use??
I am open to any and all ideas.
Again room temp is around 66 or 68.
Do you know if 2 of the Exo Light Cycle units would fit on top of an 18X18?
Id really like to run one with day and one with night bulbs, it would control heat (enough or not I dont know)
and it would help simulate the day and night cycles.
Would those provide enough heat?
i don't really like exo light cycle eithermay be it is a matter of getting used to.... i like simple
my tanks look like that:
-black canopy ( exo terra one) with day bulb ( regular low voltage energy saving) plugged into 12h on/12h off timer.
-simple reptile heat lamp fixture with infrared 50W or 75W depending on a enclosure
-fogger
-hydrotherm, both heat lamp and fogger are plugged into it.
that is how part of our zoo in a bacement looked like a few month ago, frogs on the middle and top shelf in a left rack, it is different now

Well I am moving her into a small reptile container with the
Hermit Crab heater.
They only had small and large and the large was too big at that point
I might as well use the 18X18.
They didn't have any crawlers so I had to get some crickets.
They said shed been catching them on her own previously.
