OK
My little buddy is almost here!
Ordered it yesterday from Jeanne at Strictly Reptiles (a true pleasure to deal with!)
FedEx tracking says it should be here in the next couple hours.
Now I have its big tank
BUT
MANY MANY mixed opinions on using the perm tank or a small temp enclosure.
ANYWAY
I have to go to PetSmart later to get a hermit crab heater, med carrier & a light for night.
(already have sprayer, tongs, plantation soil) but can't go till about 5 pm as we have workers
at the house. I was thinking of putting him in a 6 cup rubbermaid container with some plantation
soil till then and covering the top with saran wrap (some holes for air) and putting the 50 w light
about a foot above the container? Will this work or any better suggestions?
What else do I need? Im likely getting one of those scoops for picking him up and using my
hands as little as possible.
Should I feed him tonight or wait till tomorrow?
I was thinking I could grab some nightcrawlers perhaps? (I know WalMart sells them)
He's here!
Guys any suggestions till I am able to get to PetSmart in about 5 hrs?
Right not I still have him in his cup (he has only been here 45 min) and I have
the heat pack they sent (still giving heat) on the top of one side of the container.
I am going to put him in a tupper wear container with about a 1/2 in of water or
so with a light pointed at the container from about a foot away. How long can or
should I leave him in there? I have room temp spring water to put in there.
congrats on getting a frog by the way, will be waiting for pics
you mean you are putting him in a container with soil or water? if with soil he can be here the way you described in your first post until you'r back no problem. you can feed today, but don't annoy too much if he won't be eating. do you know how he used to eat ( tongs or not, what kind of food) if you know that you can get it and then go from there, if anything needs adjusting you can slowly introduce it. or if you don't know, just get crickets and nightcrawlers, crickets you can't feed right away as you need to gut load them first, but you can throw one or two just to see what he'll do, if he wont eat it take them away.
when i got my last one i couldn't take him out of his container or he would eat me literally ( if you remember that pic of green baby) he was jumping at my fingers like a maniac, so i was forced to feed him while he is in there.

Pics!!!
Last pic is her ghetto shack I rigged up till I get to PetSmart
in a few hrs. Tupperware, Paper towel, spring water (misted as well)
50 watt Basking light about 18 in away holes in saran wrap for air and
a part covered by paper towel if she wants to hide or get out of light.
I say she as she was the biggest of the ones left....
Can she stay like this for 4 hours or should I put her in another container
with a couple inches of plantation soil?
that is very creative! she will be just fine for 4 hours.
s/he is insanely adorable.

Congrats Jeremy! Your new baby looks great!
If you give it a bath, 15-20 minutes is fine. After that the water is going to cool down even with the light over it. Since you are just using the tuperware as a temporary enclosure for the next couple of hours, you should be fine with either the paper towels or some substrate. If it starts acting stressed (jumping and trying to climb the walls) then switch to the substrate. Also, I can't stress enough that you must use a water conditioner to de-chlorinate the water (including any water you use to expand the substrate). Otherwise the frog will tox-out.
Let him be for the next couple hours. Offer food tonight. I almost guarantee that s/he will eat. I would go straight for the nightcrawlers. Cut off an appropriate sized chunk and offer it from tongs. If s/he won't accept from the tongs, you can put a couple crickets in the enclosure. Break the back legs off so they are easier for the frog to catch. Remove any uneaten crickets in the morning.
Congrats again and keep us posted!
Oh, I also wanted to mention that you really don't need a scoop. Just pick it up gently with your hands and cup your hands around it so it can't escape. They can be very feisty - particularly the babies! Gently scoop them up from behind. Don't come straight at their face; that usually triggers a defense reaction. Even the little ones pack a mean bite!
Using spring water so no issue there!
They were feeding crickets, just a couple in the enclosure for a few hours
and she was eating well.
Does PetSmart sell crawlers or are crickets all I will get there?
Do you rinse the crawler off first or is the dirt ok?
you rinse it with same spring water or treated tap.

Ill always use spring water, we have a ton at the house (all we drink)
He already made a poop!
I changed the water and paper.
Why not use a net or scoop to move him?
Less squeezing and no contact with the oils on our hands etc?
I have always been told its the best way to move them, sure you can
use your hands but is it the best?
Congrats on your new addition! She/he looks almost identical to the one I have.
As Grif said, they can be feisty, so be careful. When I first got my little aurita, she got defensive / angry and starting hopping around and vocalizing. In all the pacman frogs I've gotten ... even my ornates ... I've never had one vocalize like that. I call her my crazy green frog. But, she's not acted like that again, although I've been very careful and slow when picking her up. I have seen her start act defensively (raise up on her hind quarters) but nothing else.
About feeding nightcrawlers -- I still have to take this little one out of her critter keeper and put it in a clean, lightly misted container. I cut off a chunk of nightcrawler, quickly dip it into a supplement, and then offer it to the frog -- usually, I have to drop the worm piece and she will eat it if it moves enough.
12 hrs since she arrived.
She took a nice poop about 4 hrs after she got her.
Got her moved into her new home for the next few weeks tonight.
She ate a cricket (still one in there) and has now dug down a bit.
So jealous! It looks beautiful! Nice and bright!
Nice frog !!!
Looks like she may have moved around a bit last night but
has burrowed in about the same place as before I went to bed.
Still one cricket in there (ate one). I will likely take it out later today
and get her some crawlers (PetSmart was getting fresh ones today)
Really looking forward to moving her into her new home possibly in the next couple weeks but
if not next mth or two for sure.
Beautiful frog . Looks like Grif and Lija have you covered, so I'll just say congrats!
