I have 3 fire bellied toads and I wanted to put some live plants in their tank.
Which plants are best for this? I have gravel/pebbles as substrate but I guess I could put a pot in the tank and
build up rocks around it to make it look better.
Please help me with ideas of what types of plants to use!
Thanks!
Hi there
Some good plants for a FBT enclosure would be pothos, frogbit and some duckweed, and i would be careful about having your frogs on pebble substrate.

Why would I want to be careful with pebbles? I have had them on pebbles for about three years now and they have been fine.
Yes, that is true. I did buy the bigger pebbles so that they couldn't fit it in their mouths. When my FBT's try to catch a cricket and get a rock in
their mouth instead, they seem to notice and spit it out, they are pretty smart. But what would you recommend instead of pebbles? large rocks?
Pieces of slate and floating cork bark would be a good choice if pebbles are too risky, i keep my toads with cocoanut husk and moss on top of pebbles, another good plant with FBTS would be bamboo, easyto grow and will get rid of nitrates.

So if I were to put bamboo, or any plant in my tank, would I just stick it in the water or the substrate and it would be good?
Or would it need it's own little pot with soil?
some plants like bamboo can cope with being in water but make sure the leaves are above water, other plants like pothos can be kept in the pot and be put into the substrate because their roots may rot if in tyhe water.

For plants out side water? How would you water them? And As to keeping a healthy plant just leave the soil that the plant came in?1

When planting i would squeeze the roots a bit to get the dirt and have the roots separate. If you dont do this before planting your plant's roots will rot and wont spread. Watering is easy, just pour a 1/2 cup over the root bundle or more to water the plant.
