Because pebbles can be swallowed up by the toads causing impaction issues which can lead to death.

Yes, that is true. I did buy the bigger pebbles so that they couldn't fit it in their mouths. When my FBT's try to catch a cricket and get a rock in
their mouth instead, they seem to notice and spit it out, they are pretty smart. But what would you recommend instead of pebbles? large rocks?

Pieces of slate and floating cork bark would be a good choice if pebbles are too risky, i keep my toads with cocoanut husk and moss on top of pebbles, another good plant with FBTS would be bamboo, easyto grow and will get rid of nitrates.

So if I were to put bamboo, or any plant in my tank, would I just stick it in the water or the substrate and it would be good?
Or would it need it's own little pot with soil?

some plants like bamboo can cope with being in water but make sure the leaves are above water, other plants like pothos can be kept in the pot and be put into the substrate because their roots may rot if in tyhe water.
