So I've been browsing this forum for a few months now, and that's usually an indicator it's time to join. Anyways, about a month and a half ago I got a Pyxie frog. It's been a great frog, and eats very well. My question is - what sex is it? I've read a TON of threads on here about this kind of thing, but I'm kind of.. stumped. I think maybe it's too early to tell at this point. I got the frog when it was the size of a quarter and now it is definitely much bigger and rounder, haha. I want to say I measured it and it's right at 3.25 inches currently. Anyways, here's some pictures; I tried to get quite a few angles for the best comparison:
I've been trying to grasp this whole sexing thing but it's difficult. Can you tell when it's early on? Because I saw a small one (dime sized, fresh in the store after I bought mine) and two were hard to tell, but one had an extremely noticable broad head. This is my first Pyxie (I bought a horned frog as well two weeks later) and it's been great. The only difficult part is finding them when they decide to dig.. which is always an adventure. Haha. Anyways, what do you all think? Something tells me it's too round to be a male but I honestly don't know. Most of the males I've seen their heads are "flush" with the outside of their body, whereas the females are wide and plump with smaller heads.
It's still a little too early to tell 100%.
Its a male
What's the male/female ratio for these frogs? based on the threads (and it could just be luck of the draw) it looks like 80% male, 20% female. Is that a fair assumption?
Grats, it's a boy!
