I decided that fish didn't interest me anymore so I thought about putting some frogs in my 29 gallon. So i got 3 ACF's from alphaprobreeders! There is still 4 guppies and maybe 10 guppy fry in the tank, I don't really mind if the frogs eat them but they are too small for that right now. A lot of people say small gravel is bad for african clawed frogs but my fish-tank has small gravel and it's to much trouble to change it. I also have a bubble wand and a hang on the back filter. I don't know if this with bother them I have seen mixed reviews about this. I also have a heater set to 72 degrees. Now to get to the fun stuff pictures!
There was no this side up marks on the box but they still arrived fine.
3 small fish baggies were packed inside with a lot of foam and a heat pad at the bottom. They were in this box for 3 days.
All of the frogs arrived safely, this is the frog i happened to take a picture of first. They are all wild type. I haven't decided on names yet.
This is the second frog. The frogs are roughly around the same size, maybe one is a centimeter bigger then the other two.
This is the last frog. The frogs were all really shy and immediately swam into hides when placed in the tank, I hope they become more bold. Ill be feeding them reptomin and earthworms.
I don't want to judge without actually seeing the small gravel you are talking about, but your frogs could become impacted and die if they ingest the wrong size piece. I'm a little surprised that you went to all the effort of ordering frogs and having them shipped (which could not have been cheap) but you don't think it's worth the trouble to remove a dangerous substrate from their tank.
At least they look healthy so you're off to a good start. They are probably pale from the stress of shipping, they will darken soon. HOB filter is fine, as they get bigger you'll want a filter that capable of cleaning a tank 2x the size of the one you have (in case you don't already have one). There is no need for a bubble wand, it may or may not scare the frogs.
The shipping was $14 and the frogs were $5 dollars each. Ill try to feed them floating food sticks so they don't eat the gravel, the gravel is very fine but it looks too big for them to eat right now. The filter can clean 5X the size of the tank. I will leave the bubble wand in for now. It would be a major hassle to remove the gravel; I know it could end bad but Im hoping they don't eat it and when there older they should be big enough to pass it fine.
Where did you get them? I have been looking for some everywhere!
Sorry! I must have overlooked it. And i looked up alphaprobreeders and the ACF in the picture seems much bigger than the ones you received. Is there any way to ensure that they will be the size in your pictures? Because i'd like them about that size so that i'll have the fun of raising them.
I thought they would be bigger too. They were only 1 inch when i received them. I wanted bigger so i can breed them. I think all they have is small ones so i would just take my chances and order them. Alphaprobreeders has the cheapest shipping i have found.
