    Default Please Help!

I have a little gray tree frog who has been a froglet for about 6 months. I went to spray the tank today and noticed that he isn't moving. He is alive, barely, but I don't know what is wrong. If you give him a little push he will move a little, but he won't even stand up. I had two froglets, who have been together their whole lives and absolutely loved each other, but unfortunately he died a couple weeks ago for other reasons. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. I have heard of animals dying from heartbreak, but I don't know if that is what is wrong with him. There are two pictures of him below for a visual. Any help would be much appreciated. I am a first time frog owner and have had this little guy since he was an egg.

Update: I put my frog into my sister's tank who has three of the same kind of froglets who are the same age. One instantly went over to him and since then he seems to have improved a little. He had his head up for a little bit and when you give him a little touch he will actually attempt to jump. I have no idea if this is because he is with other frogs or what.

One common thing I have seen with the leg splaying is a Vitamin A deficiency. Do you supplement them with anything?
And he will need to go to the vet, I would keep him away from any of your other frogs, because if it is not a vit a def. It could potentially be something transferrable to your other frogs...Put him in a quarantine tub with paper towels and try to offer small dusted crickets daily, no more than one per feeding, as several may stress him out.

Also if you touch him, wear nitrile gloves, the oils in your skin can hurt them when their immune system is compromised.
    Hope this helps.

I don't supplement him with anything because I feed him fruit flies. He is still really small and I can't get crickets small enough for him. Do you know of anything other way I could give him Vitamin A? And do they sell that stuff at pet stores like Petco and Petsmart?

You'll need to get both a calcium with vitamin D3 supplement and a multivitamin supplement. Look in the reptile/amphibian section of a pet store. The multivitamin should be dusted one day a week and the calcium should normally be dusted every other day and not on the same day as the mvi. I would use the calcium every day for the first 3 days as he looks to be having a deficiency of calcium.

Get the above started soon as he may lose his mobility functions and it also may lead to difficulty with jaw movement.

To dust the ff's put a small pinch of powdered supplement into the Baggie and tap the ff in. Give the bag a very gentle shake to coat them, then you can tap them in his tank. Try not to dump the excess supplement into the tank.

Ok I went to the pet store and bought Repashy Superfoods vitamin and calcium supplement and dusted the flies with it. It was too late to go out last night so I did it this morning, but he doesn't seem interested in the flies. In fact I noticed it looks like something is in his mouth, but I don't know what it is. It looks like it could be part of his mouth, but I have no idea. If anyone knows what it is or what I could do to help him, I would appreciate so much.

He would move when you gave him a little touch, but now he isn't. I think he's gone...

Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!

Im sorry! You tried your best, next time dust early! Did you get the eggs from outside? Or did you buy them. I would recommend getting one that is semi-grown up from a online site. Babys require extra care.

Thanks for the help guys! It's sad that he is gone, I never would have thought that I would get so attatched to a frog. At least now I have the calcium and vitamin supplement for my sister's frogs.

Back in May some frogs laid eggs on our pool cover. My sisters and I raised over 50 tadpoles and decided to keep a few frogs for ourselves. I never realized how tough these guys are to care for, but at least my sister's frogs seem to be doing fine. I will have them dust the flies now that I know they need it.
