Apollo, my male White's Tree Frog, seems to have taken to rubbing his nose on the glass!![]()
He's got a brown square between his little nostrils and I remember that my female arrived with a skinned nose when I first got her. I never put anything on her nose and it seemed to clear up in a week or so after she got settled in. His spot is much larger and I was wondering what (if anything) I can put on the spot on his nose? Should I even put anything on it?
I recently bought a fogger and have been running it twice a day (once in the morning and once at night) for about 30 minutes to keep the humidity up. I have a towel over half of the screen to keep the heat in as well. Currently, the temperature is 71.4 degrees Fahrenheit at the halfway point of the tank with the humidity running at 74% in a 24"x18"x24"Exo-Terra tank. Unfortunately, there is no background on the outside of the tank as I am in the process of working on a 29G vertical conversion.
Could not having a barrier there be what's causing him to do this?
Hi,
May I suggest you keep SSD on-hand for any break in the skin.
It can be ordered here- see pot #1: ("Silversulfadiazene is a topical antibiotic and antifungal ")

It's cool. You will want to try to pull up the temp to around 78.
Are you monitoring the humidity ?

Would Zinc Oxide work as well for that? I don't have the time to run to the vet before I head to work unfortunately... I don't have a day off until Monday.
I already have 100W bulb on the tank. Should I add a heating pad to help bring up the temperature? I have tried going warmer and they don't seem happy with it really warm.
Hi Sarah,
The heat source you choose needs maintain the adequate temp and -- therefore, humidity levels as mentioned.
I would suggest getting the ceramic heat bulb ( use it carefully) like you originally planned in post #1
Zinc oxide will not replace the benefits and need or SSD on the broken skin of a tree frog as it has no
antibiotic or anti-fungal properties to heal the area.

I am going to be purchasing a Exo-Terra Heat Wave Mat tonight before I leave work. I am thinking about getting the desert one because it will have to heat through the GS Foam background on my new tank (when it's completely set up). Think that it will help bring the temp up sufficiently?
I only asked about the Zinc Oxide because someone suggested it to me. I have another thing that I can use and it can be used on everything. It treats bacterial and fungal infections and comes in a gel application. Will see if that will work. If not, I can use it on my cats and whatnot.
