Help with shed

Noticed yesterday that Olive is having a shed problem. She went through the whole process of puffing out and sucking in but never managed to get the skin off. She's trying again tonight but not getting anywhere. I see some skin on her leg and then I can see it on her back. Will misting her help or should I give her a bath and if so do I just use plain distilled water?

I was having an issue with keeping the humidity up yesterday. It's usually around 68% but was only getting up to 58-60%. Today it's better, had the humidifier running all day. The humidity in the tank right now is 70%

Try and get that humidity up to 80% if you can. A nice lukewarm dechlorinated water soak works wonders in loosening and softening the skin. It makes it soggy and then it can slide right off. I soak my pacs every couple of days. I just set them in. They actually seem to not mind it and usually stay in quite a while. Mine never have trouble shedding. Sometimes they eat it and sometimes they just leave it in the water.

Thanks for the reply Heather. This morning she was soaking in her water bowl but I will give her a special soak tonight. I misted the tank real good before I left work and the fogger is going. Luckily I live by my work so I'm only away from them for about 4 hours at a time so I can keep an eye on things.

I swear my frogs are like, "oh she thinks she can help other people with their frogs and she's paying attention to that lizard in the other tank, we'll show her!" In the past 3 weeks I've had a small prolapse, this shedding problem and a bullying situation that I will talk about in another post.

I hear ya Sasha... My Pac has decided to dig underground and go on a hunger strike all fall/winter. Temps and humidity are perfect, both 80. Not even fresh bedding and soaks get her to come out for more than 3 mins, let alone eat...

Can you guys clarify what the correct humidity for a WTF is? I have seen a quite a range given on various different sites and care sheets. I have seen from 60-80% given.

With my whites I keep them around 65-70%. Up to 70% and no lower then 60%. I was having an issue finding that info as well, that is the range I kept finding. I messed with it in that range till I found the point where my girls were the most comfortable. I found that 65-70% is where they are the most active. I have had it there for the last year and a half and they are still really active at night and no shedding issues. Of course this is just my experience, some others may have different opinions/experience on this.

I'm with Will on this one 65-70% is a good range. I usually aim for 68%, going to try bumping it slightly to help with this shed thing going on. Olive must have worked her magic while I was at work because I don't see any excess skin stuck on her tonight.

Having almost lost my frog to a serious illness (I don't believe it was related to humidity) I am now really paying attention to all the details so he (and I) never have to go through that again. Does anyone have a favorite humidity gauge - brand or type? I had to replace everything in my frogs house and the news humidity gauge I got stinks. Its one of those dial ones. I guess I should spring for the probe kind?

I use a zoo med hygrotherm. It's digital and it controls both the temp and the humidity. It's been a godsend for me! It's a little expensive but it's well worth the money.

I am SO ready for winter to be over with here! My apartment is a humidity EATER. I made sure the humidifier was working when I went to bed and when I woke up it was out of water...it's a 12 gallon home humidifier! Which meant when I looked at my frogs this morning (after sleeping in) their humidity was at 44%! My fogger had a little glitch and wasn't pumping water out. Olive is sitting on the bottom of the tank. She looks like she's sitting on the substrate but she might be sitting on a leaf. As I type this I'm preparing a little bath for her. Hopefully I can get her out of the tank without stressing her too much, she's in the most hidden spot of the tank.

Thanks Heather! She's a sweetie! They all seem to be doing better, I've upped the humidity to about 73 and been making sure not to mist them with the distilled water, just the tank. They are all doing better. We've also come up with a better feeding system to stop the bullying, everyone is happy!
