The driftwood log I have in my Green Tree Frog's tank has begun dripping some sort of residue into the water dish below and its got me worried. I went to a petstore to look for a replacement, and when I asked the owner about this he said it was just substrate and other things like oils or somethig dripping off the wood during misting, and that its not harmful for the frogs. Is this true? Anyone have any idea if this is true? Or any other insight as to what may be dripping off the log as well? If its not hurting them, I don't want to have to replace the log just yet and deprive them of their hiding spot.
Boil it and it should draw it all out

For how long? I don't want the frogs to be out of their tank for tooo long, it moght stress them put. Replacing the log probably would stress them out more so though, so I'll boil it out then
15-20 mins should do the trick. After you pull it you can submurse it in cool dechlorinated water to speed up the cooling process

So apparently the driftwood has mold on it too. I assume I have to throw it out then right?
if it is brown liquid, it is probably the tannins in the wood. boiling it may help a bit, but you will never be able to remove it all completely. the only thing that will do that is time. it won't hurt the frogs at all. so, if you don't want to remove the wood, it's not really necessary

Any idea if the mold can be boiled off? I doubt it though, so I'll probably have to end up tossing it.
What colour is the mold?
It was like a white with blue tint around the edges. Something like that, I mostly just panicked and got one of the little guys out from inside of it.
I was mistaken earlier, its more like a white mold with a tint of pale blue. I've been boiling it for about two hours now, but it's been about an hour per side since the pot isn't quite big enough. It looks like most of the mold may have come off, but then again, I could be wrong (minus one patch right in the middle of the driftwood). I've also been trying to look up stuff on mold on driftwood, and I've been seeing that it's supposedly a natural occurrence and not harmful to the frog? If this is the case, I may try to clean it off and put the log back in.
Still no reemergence of the mold. I was considering boiling again, to try and get that middle chunk of mold out. In the meantime, however, I've a lot of room in my tank, and it's made me reconsider putting driftwood in again if this piece has to be thrown out. I had just gotten a fake vine and decided to put it in there for something to climb on aside from the fake plants, and the frogs still seem to be doing ok. Verde even vocalized this morning, so it's good to know the loss of their den hasn't stressed them out too much. So, can anyone recommend anything I could put in here to give it a bit more of a homey feeling for these guys? I know live plants are an option, but I feel like I'd mess that up somehow, so I want to try to avoid them if possible.

You can boil the wood for months and the white fungus will come back. It is part of a new setup. It's the tank cycling. It will go away on it's own, in about 3 weeks. It also may reappear from time to time. It's nothing to worry about.
