I use LED light in all my vivs & cages, plus red bulbs for heat & night time viewing. I love the light strips from Ikea. I also use LED lights from 18 SMT (3 Chip) Standard Light Bulb - Household LED Lights - LEDLight

This is the most productive light setup I have. Out of my 4 dart enclosure this one has my plants growing like weeds. I have a cheap T8 fixture that I have disassembled and made it in to a cheap not so fancy hood. I use a Shop GE 15-Watt T8 1-1/2-ft Daylight (6500K) Fluorescent Light Bulb at Lowes.com= for my light CFL.

I use a t5 6400k light output (24 watts) for my planted tank.

3 jungle dawn 13 watt led bulbs on my 24" cube tank housed in an exo terra compact canopy light fixture. Really makes everything color up without the heat of cfls

For two of my tanks I use regular fluorescent strip lights from Marineland with the tubes that came with them, they just say Daylight on them but no exact Kelvin or temperature rating. All my plants grow like crazy and I'm always having to cut them back. On the other two I use CFLs 13/25 watts...Exo Terra 2.0 on one and generic daylight GE on the other.

Here's a list of some of my plants...

    Pothos
    Pellionia repens
    Pepperomia
    Lemon Fern
    Ficus repens
    Neoregalia
    Philodendron..................................

Since getting into Dart Frogs I've come to realize that it's the humidity that really makes these plants grow, at least in my opinion and limited terrarium building experience.

I have a generic hood with 2 - 6500K CFL bulbs. Plants growing like crazy, clipping back every 2 to 3 weeks.

In the future I will be updating my Jungle Dawn LED bulbs to dimmable LED strip lights to mount on my bakers rack. They are very expensive but will be worth it for the dimming capabilites as these tanks are setup as display tanks

thanks i'll remember the humidity thing... its always correct when frogs are in as i use foggers but not on new builds with no critters in so i will remember that thanks

I know your question was about lighting, but here's a few more of my plants that do really well with just the simple tube/cfl lighting...

    Cryptanthus sp.
    Peperomia clusifolia(Red Edge)
    Birds Nest Fern

You don't hear too much about people using Bird's Nest Ferns but they grow great inside of a terrarium. Unfortunately, most of them grow too large for use in a terrarium although there are a number of species that stay around the 12" size. They do best if you plant them directly under the light.

One more thing...I used to read a lot on Dendroboard and there quite a few long time PDF keepers that don't stress out over lighting and just get 48" standard fluorescent bulbs from Home Depot or Lowes and have great plant growing success with them.

I'm sure you have some similar type of Home/Garden store or chain over in the UK.
