Branches Question

I got my first american green tree frog so I built my first vivarium with plantation soil, vine, silk plants, a piece of cork bark and a grapevine branch. After 1 week the grape vine begin to have white mold on it and I thought that the substrate was to watery, so I heated the substrate to dry it a bit. I washed the grapevine branch and left it in front of the fireplace to get warm and remove any water in the branch. I cleaned the vivarium and set it up again but the same thing happens. Do you think that I need to do anything else or change to another type of wood? If so, what would you suggest?

This is a picture of the vivarium right now. I still need to add more plants and hiding places but for now I need to solve this mold problem.

White mold is completely normal. It will come and go and is nothing to worry about!

I recently dealt with some mold. Take a look at my thread Ann's see if the mold looks similar. Seemd to be a journal occurrence from what I gather.

It's a very common occurrence to have white mold. Tanks will cycle. It will go away on its own.

white fungus is normal in a newly set up tank. even in mature tanks, white fungus will appear from time to time. it will go away on it's own. normally in about 2-3 weeks. if you add springtails to the viv, they will eat it all you did with drying the wood out, is re-start the cycle in the wood

The last time that I heated the wood it fell off from the grill and was touching the bottom plate of the oven. I didn't know it fell but when I removed it from the over it had black marks like burns.

Is it dangerous?

No, it is not dangerous. Remember, frogs are exposed to charred wood all the time in the results of fires and such.
