What kind and how many watts heater would you suggest for me to use in this vivarium?

That is going to be determined by ow warm the viv stays during different times of the day. Most darts are comfy at temps between 70-80 degrees with some minor variations. Keep the tank well humid and closed, get a good vivarium themometer and hygrometer, monitor it multiple times per day for about a week or two. Make sure you set the timer on your lights for 12 hours on and 12 hours off. You may not need any heat source. This will give you the best idea. I personally don't like my tank temps dropping below 67 degrees F at night. Since my home thermostat is set to 68 degrees, my tank never gets that low. The lighting hood heats the viv up to a balmy 77 during the "daylight" time frame of the cycle. Check back and let us know

Should a person need to apply some supplemental heat, what would be the best way?

I keep a ceramic heater 40 just slightly over the tank on a wire shelf rack. Some people prefer under tank heater. In my opinion all are viable options. Keep n mind if you are using a ceramic heating element, they get real hot and will shatter glass hoods. Ask me how I know.

Right there with ya Ed, my hubby taught us all about that. Was kinda funny when he had to tell me how our BRAND new (like 30 minutes new) tank shattered while i was at the grocery lol. He thought he was helpin by "warming up the tank". Bless his heart. Thank goodness for our local Petco, they know us by first name now lol, swapping it for us.

Anyway back to the initial topic...I ended up using all options lol. Guess our house is drafty and the hubby likes to sleep in a walkin freezer lol. If you go with ceramic, it dries out the tank really fast I have found. So even more of an idea to get the Hygrotherm.... scored one at local Repticon this weekend for 70 bucks. Perfect!

I have the same tank And I livee in the warm south. I had alot of trouble getting my temps consistent in that range. I ended up with a zoo med hygrotherm wuth a repti fogger for humidity and a ceramic infrared bulb. But also in constant I have a side mounted uth and a submersible water heater under my false bottom. Abs now I finally got it right. Just play around with different heat sources until you find the right combo. And get a zoomed hygrotherm, gives me piece of mind when I work 12 shifts. You can get it the cheapest at thatpetplace.com... good luck!
