Default Hi, I have no idea what I am doing. Haha.

Well, I have very little idea what I am doing. I will post most of that in the vivarium section though!

My name is Haley, I am a 34 year old mom and I work in a floral wholesale warehouse as the assistant property manager. I am an animal lover and occasionally critters sneak in on the plants and need to be relocated. I have caught in the past coqui frogs, cuban tree frogs, grey tree frogs and anoles previously. Usually I call around to see if any pet shops nearby have anyone that would want them but a few days ago I came across a little green tree frog that I fell in love with.

I had a spare 5 gallon that I put her in for the first night and since picked up an exoterra terrarium that is 12x12x18 and moved her to it. I am using her simply because there has been no noise and I don't see any wrinkles on the neck like I read the males tend to have. I have named her Midori and I am trying to make sure I do the best for her. So far she has eaten 4 crickets on the second night with me, I tossed some more in there last night but wasn't able to see how many there were dropped in there since I got a cricket feeder container and it has the little tube that they hide in and you shake it in there. I was tired and bleary eyed when I did it. I guess I am lucky I didn't add some to my bed too now that I think of it, ha.

I plan on attempting to make her home lively with living plants, so far there is living pillow moss and some silly plastic suction cup hanging vines in there to give her shelter while I research what is OK to add in there and the best, safest way to go about it. I also have some of the Flukers green sphagnum moss in there and after reading some moss can cause impactions I am a little nervous about using it as substrate. I also have given her filtered water that is left in my britta pitcher, I am wondering if I should switch to straight up spring water for her safety as well.

Anyway, hi and I look forward to getting a lot of help on how to not kill my little green stow away.

    Hi Haley,
Your story is wonderful . Welcome to Frog Forum!
Your little girl (?) is very pretty!. She is very lucky to have you.

I wanted to answer 2 very important questions for you; it looks as though you already know the answer to.

Yes -You are right - you should get rid of the sphagnum moss as it can cause impactions.
Plain dampened paper towel can be used in it place until/ or if .....you should decide to change it. The paper ( unbleached best /but white ok / no print) should be nicely dampened w/ de-chlorinated water.

I wold suggest you de-chlorinate the brita tap water. I use a product by exo-terra ( Aquatize) 8 drops /gallon. I simply save empty gallon distilled jugs and fill a bunch ahead of time. The de-chlor water should be used for the paper substrate and for the frog's soaking dish. A clean and sterilized ceramic plant saucer makes a great soaking dish/ clean daily in hot tap water !

The distilled water can be use to clean the glass and increase the humidity when needed.

    * Your cutie-pie needs a good calcium and vitamin supplement ( dust the crickets) such as
Rep-Cal w/ vit D3 and Rep-Cal vitamins, or Repashy "Calcium Plus"

Repashy Superfoods - Repashy Ventures - Distributor Center

Many of us alternate these products using a dusting schedule to assure consistency.

You have a great day , hope to see more of you soon !

Thanks! I will scoop the sphagnum moss out as soon as I get back home and pick up the de-chlorinator on the way home.

I have started to feed the crickets with the flukers cricket food, is dusting better than gut loading or should I do both?
