Do you mean add a filter to the dish? I don't have one because I change water often plus I don't want any objects taking up space. I already have 3 smooth rocks piled in a way to support one end of a driftwood log, the other end is on land. Oh, mine move but then again sit for periods at a time. And I would not add another creature unless it would be safe. FB's seem happy, just bored. I sure do miss having a turtle like I did when I was a kid, it was my favorite pet besides a dog! So, that means a newt is out, plus any other little reptile. Hmmm, does that leave anything?

then you can maybe put in some white cloud mountain minnows. I have never had a problem with them in with the FBT and I have even had them breed. My tank is 29 gallons.

i believe that the main problem about adding anything else to a firebelly tank, is the fact that they secrete some sort of toxins into the enclosure.

i personally just went from a fully aquatic (with a small land portion) to a fully land with a couple of water bowls enclosure... my firebellies are loving it...

in terms of the small turtles, you kind of need to know where to look. they are readily available where i am in texas. a good place for you to try and check, is if you have any local swapmeets where they also sell animals... some times the vendors will carry them. thats where we got ours! $5 for the turtle itself... lol

it sure is a shame you dont live closer to mcallen texas, we have to find our little turtle (maybe 3 inches in total length) a new home. due to the fact that my apartments freaked out on us, and i will not give him a non aquatic home. so he has to find a new home.

i would try the swapmeet if you have them... for the little turtles

Well, you're lucky, I'm in Ohio and they banned them here. If they banned turtles why don't they just ban tarantulas, lizards, snakes, etc? I had turtles as a kid and never had a problem. I did not handle them alot, but my friends with turtles didn't have a problem either. I did call today and ofcourse was told no one sells them anymore. About the FB's: yep, because of their toxin I guess the only creature to add would be a red crab and I don't want one in my tank. I'm not going to add anything, my frogs seem content.

You mean you can't have a turtle in an apartment? In my old apartment I had a rabbit then later birds. Some people had a cat. I can't imagine not allowing a turtle. That would break my heart to give up a turtle. But if I were closer I'd love to have your turtle! I've been wanting one for years! So I have a fish tank, frog tank, hermits. The hermits are real low maintenance which is nice. But you are right, that turtle needs water! I hope he finds a nice home if you must give him up.

that is correct, basically someone reported that we have a pet snake. they did not report any of our other animals. (2 leopard geckos, 2 firebellies, and the turtle) only the snake was reported. so i have made the appropriate adjustments to make everything else, out of sight out of mind. but with the turtle, i cannot do that. as he has a running filter, which makes noise. therefore it appears, i will have to find him a new home to avoid having to get rid of the rest of our animals as well.

the apartments has absolutely no problem at all with our 2 birds. all reptiles of any kind are banned. therefore, unfortunately.... i think its in our best interest, to relocate the one tank that makes noise, to keep the rest of the group. =/

i believe that the little turtles are banned in every state, only aquatic turtles with a shell length of 4 inches can legally be sold. guess since we are so close to the border, they ae much more readily available? but i could be incorrect, i just feel like that is what i read somewhere...

my water is about 6-7" deep. I think the angle from which I took the picture makes it look deeper than it really is My frogs have never had a probem getting onto land. My filter is hidden behind all the plants. Last year they even gave me babies. My frogs are alot older than yours and larger.

Oh, that seems deep to me,... just curious how big your frogs are? Mine are 2.5" (body) legs straight out would add more to this length. I've had mine about a year and am hoping they will get bigger. I'm going to keep checking thrift stores then garage sales for a bigger tank. Then I'll have a blast decorating it. Hey, maybe mine will have babies some day!

turtles under 4"are banned throughout the u.s. due to their transmission of salmonella. of course, small ones are sold time to time illegally. if you want to add them a friend, put the hermit crabs in there. my son keeps my daughter's hermits in with his FBT's. the hermit crabs actually prefer the humidity of an fbt enclosure as opposed to those cages that you always see them in.

Well, my hermits are not fond of water and the frogs are. The hermits burrow in eco earth. The frogs have pebbles, rocks, some grass, some eco earth plus their driftwood log goes over the water and I doubt the hermits would want to end up on top of a frog. Both have humidity but the hermits don't like swimming LOL. They'd probably get along but the crabs are good sized and I don't want to find anyone hurt, fighting or arguing. It just occurred to me the hermits might like to chase a cricket, I'll have to give them one. Anyway, I guess its best if I keep them separately, I just wonder if they'd get along. I know turtles were banned due to salmonella but I never got it, I washed my hands. Sure miss those turtles though. But, how many hermits and FB's do you house together and what size is your tank? What do you feed your hermits and frogs? Just curious..I bought a new batch of crickets today for frogs and hermits will get boiled chicken, fruit, and veggies.

Oh gee, did you know this before you moved in? Can you get a quiet filter for the turtle and keep him?

we lived here 7 months before we got our turtle. i was not aware that they had this policy. but after discussions with my father, who also shares the place with us. i think we are going to try and keep him afterall... lol i really like him/her... cute little one! perhaps ill just find another room to put him in. might be for the best... :0)

Oh I see what you are saying but I can't see your filter in the pic. You have a beautiful tank but your water sure looks deep. Do you have big frogs? I mean like the size of a softball? LOL I have little guys and maybe I mentioned before are in 3" of water. How do yours climb out? They just paddle around, no diving? Minnows are good in yours because of how much water I'm seeing. If I could post a picture of my tank I would, but no one has shown me how. Oh, your tank is larger, I have a 10 gal at the moment. What I'd like is a 20 gal long one but have not seen one in stores. I'm always checking thrift stores and will have to wait for garage sales. I have screen to make my own cover. My tank does have different levels I built and I'm thinking a tree house would be good, I just have to find one, preferably plastic painted in brown or gray.
