Sick Grey Tree Frogs, need feedback

I had two Grey Tree Frogs I caught from a local area, and I woke up this morning to find one in the substrate, and looking ill. He was limp and upon trying to inspect him, he went even more limp, while breathing very shallowly. He passed soon after I'm sad to say, as his mucus layer was peeling off, he was entirely unresponsive and he had stopped breathing. I had hoped it was some sort of hibernation, but its not. The remaining frog however, has been sitting in the pool, making minor spasms (for the initial period his legs where out but now he's sitting normal), and he didn't want to eat a cricket offered to him (the usual feeding method). I would let that slide but the last time he was fed was two days ago. I'm just concerned about the remaining frog's wellbeing, because my other frog was perfectly fine up until this morning .He also seems a little bloated after having left the pool, but at the same time his skin looks alittle wrinkley. I'm worried he won't make it to tomorrow at this rate .

This may be a long shot but are you using an sort of water conditioner in the water you provide or is it right out of the tap? ro water? Distilled ?

It's tap water with de*chlor*ifier added. I've had them for about 8 months and they haven't seemed to have an adverse reaction to it.

Edit: After work I tried to feed him, with success this time. Now i'm just worried about everything else.

Ok The spasms of the one in the water just made me think chlorine poisoning

I had a grey with sever rear leg spasms at one point. It was about 3-4 months old. It couldn’t even use its rear legs at one point. I separated him and started coating the crickets with calcium powder (Fluker’s calcium with vitamin D3 powder). He was the biggest frog, and the second biggest frog started showing the same symptoms a week later. After a month the first frog was doing better, and the second frog wasn’t showing anymore symptoms. The biggest frog completely recovered after about 2 to 3 months and was returned with the others. These were growing frogs, but calcium coated crickets worked wonders. They are close to adult size now and doing well. I may have grown them too quickly as they are only 8 months old.

Holy ****, not to derail the thread, but my grey treefrog is about 8 months old and he's not even HALF that size. I've been feeding him 3-4 crickets every night on a regular basis. What could cause him to grow so slowly?

It sounds like a calcium deficiency to me also. Use calcium with vitamin D3 lightly dusted on his food for the next couple days and once the twitching spasms are resolved switch to every other day. Use an amphibian/reptile multivitamin light dusting one day a week, but not on the same day as the calcium.

I hate to say, but Cain passed less than a day after this was posted =/. I think it was kidney failure, because unfortunately the ground was frozen too much after Cain passed for me to bury him right away, and I didn't have any real storage place for him. He sat in the pet carrier on paper towels until it was warm enough for me to dig . During that time, a spot developed on his back, right where his kidneys would be (I believe), leading me to think that that was decay around the kidney areas. I don't know what could have caused it, except maybe I let the water go for too long without changing it . I was heartbroken, devastated over the loss, I had to go and get Greens from the Petsmart nearby very shortly after to fill the hole in my heart (I know not the best reason, but it was a rough coming week and my first beloved frogs passing was not something that helped). I plan on getting a new tank and another pair of Grays over the summer though, seeing as how they like to use my pool for their tadpoles. Provided they come back this year that is.

Life happens, I just wish it hadn't happened so soon. At least they had a happy froggy life I hope. I tried to make them as comfy and happy as possible . And at least they passed ironically, with Abel croaking before Cain. Still though, they were amazing frogs. So outgoing and adorable.
