Hi, I bought a heat mat yesterday but it doesn't have a thermostat on it, I thaught I would have to set the right temperature, are all heat mats the same temperature?
p.s this may sound like a stupid question but I'm new to the hobby
Welcome to the forum.
Not a stupid question at all. The small hermit crab heat matt only gives off a small amount of heat. The larger matts get pretty warm. I've never actually placed a thermometer over one, but since the question has come up I just might. I would guess the small matt gets to about 90'F, though just a guess. I have felt the matts while on just to check that they're still working well. They get pretty warm. The wattage is listed on the package, I believe.
What kind of frog are you heating the tank for?

Hey,
So I know this doesn't answer your question at all but I wouldn't use a heat mat for a frog at all, regardless of the temperature. Frogs will burrow down to the heated spot and actually dehydrate and die. I just think it's too much of a risk. I would use instead a low wattage heat or incandescent bulb![]()
It depends on the frog type, tree frog or terrestrial frogs. You can use one on the side wall for pacman frogs and on the floor for tree frogs.
