My first toad.

Well I got him second hand, he's a year or so old and was given to me a few days ago.

Anyway he was being kept in a pretty terrible cage, pretty much just a tiny critter keeper, a fake plant, some gravel and a water bowl. So I took a spare 10 gallon and put a little more money into it then I wanted, and came out with this. The only real plant is a wad of java moss, it seemed like something he would like to sit on.



Is it a good habitat? I'm really new to this so I'm not sure, also will he need companions at some point?

Congrats on acquiring your toad! Not sure what kind of toad you have yet. Hopefully a fire belly.

Looks good, but is there a land area for feeding? Companions are appreciated but not necessary, but there's plenty of room for a friend in there =)

ya maybe get a turtle dock or add a land area def get him a partner its super funny watching them be social it lightens my day all the time =)

Ive just been feeding him on the java moss, the crickets don't stay there very long XD

But I can give him a larger land area, once I get it situated I'll post pics. He's doing very well and has stopped hiding btw, the java moss seems to be his favorite spot in the tank =3

Ok, I found some spare gravel and made him a ramp thing with that, he has no issues climbing the filter at all from what I've seen when he goes after crickets lol



Also yes I know he's too thin, I'm working on that.

be sure he doesnt ingest some of those stones a few of um look a little too small. he soo cute looks like my boy but skinny pete status. He gets those same 2 green dots on his neck when he turns black =)

Forgot to mention, mine really like the land area and your tank needs less water, if you lower it so rocks are above surface enough he can sit on a rock and still have his feet in water, that's what mine do. Mine put front feet on a rock and back legs float in the water. They look like they are hugging the rock. The other day I found one of my hermits hugging a peach (he was going to eat it) but it was really cute.

Another idea for a land area you can try is take a repti rock food or water dish and pack it full of eco earth, it will float and you can just drop the crickets on that. I can't imagine the weight of your fbt being able to flip it. And you can pull it out after he is done eating. Actually by doing it that way after a while he would realize that every time he sees that rock dinner is coming =)

I currently have a large size water dish packed with eco earth for my land area but my water is a bit more shallow and I have gravel pushed up around it to hold it in place.

Its very nice but looks like your water looks too deep. I keep mine at 3". Yep, just looked at pic again and I can tell you from my observation: the rocks you have at the bottom? If you lower your water level he can sit on those and also be wet, mine love it. And I have 4 frogs and all get along, they often are right next to each other. Do you have FB's? Even any toad would like company. I hope you get a few more then you can watch them all together! I'm looking into adding another critter to my tank but there are not many choices, wish there were.
