welcome to the forum Lunathat's a neat little setup you got that. i love the little nano tanks. if you ever need help with the aquatic plants, don't hesitate to ask. they are kind of my specialty....LOL
Hello!
I am new to the forums as well as new to being an ADF owner. I have read-and read-and read-and I think I am doing everything right. I am just not sure. I am so thankful to have found these forums and can't wait to meet you all. I have two ADFs in a 4 gallon Aqueon Evolve tank with three zebra danios and live plants. First off...I am pretty sure that their home is too small and already started a fund to save money for another tank. I plan to separate the danios/frogs and keep each in their own tank. I have had them since December as my fiance bought me the tank/frogs/fish/plants all for Christmas. Not knowing much about any of it, I set it up and put the critters in right away. I now know that this was wrong, but everyone seemd to fare well. I won't bombard anyone in my introduction with questions but will read further and see if I can find an answer to my main one first. I just wanted to say hello and include a picture of my setup. Oh....I am 38, have three children and recently got engaged. I am a work-from-home mom, and do medical transcription. I used to keep fish a looooong time ago; however, only in huge tanks and only african cichlids. The danios are absoutely a hoot to watch and thankfully a hardy bunch so no problems there except for some overfeeding in the beginning which was a lesson quickly learned when the pond snails who hitched a ride on my plants took over! Anywho...here is a picture of my tank. The little cave in the front is the eating spot for the frogs. I couldn't figure out a way to monitor who ate what so I used a rotatry tool to carve them a cave from a rock. They really seem to like it....I am off to read and learn...and possibly ask some questions when I figure out where everything is!![]()

Thank you Bill, I really appreciate your offer as I have never kept live plants...and actually, I do have a question. As I said before, my plants came with snails...I was reading what to do about that and read to soak them in salt water. Well....they were very, very stressed by this. They turned a lighter shade of green and lost a lot of their lower limbs. They seem to be coming back...but I'm not sure where to go from here unless it is just to allow them to heal. They are actually why I wanted the additional light. Here is an image of them. Some of the new shoots turned yellow, then black, then fell off...so I'm not sure if they are going to make it.

Thank you Lynn (that is my middle name)Wow....that cookie sounds delightful...I love to cook, do you care to share that recipe? I will trade you onePM me if it isn't appropriate here and tell me what kind of food you like! I come up with a lot of my own.
whomever wrote that you should soak a freshwater plant in saltwater should be flung from a catapult into a wall 2 feet awaythe main problem is that the snails already left your plants, which appear to be myriophyllum mattengrosense(?), so soaking them would have done no good. a 20:1 ratio of water to bleach (20 parts water to 1 part bleach), should be plenty to kill off any snails and won't harm your plants. soak them for about 5 minutes or so then rinse with fresh, clean water. once snails are in your tank, there's not much you can do. feeding lightly is your best bet. if the snails do not have food, they will not be able to multiply. otherwise, options include: adding assassin snail(s), or adding fish that eat snails, such as some loaches. obviously, the last is not an option, but i felt i needed to add it. i have tons of snail in all my tanks. they keep things nice and clean. every water change, when they rise to the top, i just smush some. it helps keep the population in check.
your plants will eventually come around, as long as you are running 6500k bulbs. the waste in the water from the frogs should be enough to keep them fertilized, since it's such a cute little tank....LOL

Thanks again Bill. I actually think I have the snails in check. I only see one or two in there from time to time so I'm not hugely worried about it anymore....I used a cooked cabbage on the end of fishing line in the dark technique. Thank you for the advice about the plants..it is a huge relief to hear they should be fine. I have a small piece of wisteria in there that is visibly perking back up already. I got my Marimo balls after the saltwater fiasco but it turns out they like a few grains of salt in some cold water every once in a while...I just do it outside the tank now. By the way...if you don't have any you would probably LOVE them just as much as I doAlso, thank you for the compliments about the tank. I plan to get another one and separte the danios from the frogs so they can live as close to normal as possible. I really do like the Aqueon Evolve tanks....my next one might be the 8 gallon! Before I know it I will have a house full of 55s like I did in my early 20s! I can't wait.

Welcome to the forum
Oh, I love ADF's. Though I've yet to buy one or two, I love 'em. Aquatic animals have always fascinated me. One of the reasons I love my American bullfroglets so much, they're both land and water animals, though they prefer the water.
That's an awesome setup you got for your froggies, I'm jealoussmaller tanks are underrated. You can truly make them look beautiful.
My Amphibians:
1.0.0 Rana Catesbiana (Bumpy Digtoad )
1.0.0 Pseudacris Regilla (Levi )
1.1.0 Ambystoma Macrodactylum (Urtham and Gargan )
2.2.0 Bombina Orientalis ( Rosa, Sasha, Aleksis, and Dimitri )
Rest in Peace, Gnag the Nameless, Chrome, and Thermidor
I know exactly how you feel! When I had my bullfroglets in the 20 Gallon, I was just like "Ah, this is too small..." and so I went and got their 30 Gallon!

I used to have 55x3 20x2 30x1 and 10x2 in a two bedroom trailer! I was obsessed. I'm headed there again but I can't think of anything better to be obsessed with.Although...my landlord at the time was NOT happy when he discovered it.
Welcome Luna.
