hi guys im having to leave my frog un attended at home for a day n half will she be ok if i change the water and put in about 10 locust? only had her 3 days dont want her to suffer!
On one hand, it should be OK because it still needs to adjust to it's surroundings, but on the other hand, since you have only had this frog for three days and you do not know it's eating habits. Quite a few owners have realized that with their Pac Man Frogs they need to be hand fed or they will not eat. If I had to gamble, I would say yes but only as long as there is company to check on the frog on an hourly basis.
You don't need to put 10 crickets in with it. Thats to many. You will need to have someone check on the frog to mist the enclosure and change the water if it becomes soiled. If you were to have a Zoo Med Hygrotherm and a fogger unit you would not have to worry about misting or climate since the Hygrotherm will do this for you. If your frog is very young you only need to place about 5 crickets in and it should be ok.

Ok thanks guys ive put 5 crickets in for her she eats fine without me hand feedin her and a friend is gunna check on her twice a day, my temp stays at a constant 75.7 and the humidity fluctuates between 73 and 77 is that ok or do I need to tell my friend to change it?
why would you hand feed a pacman? I'm trying to imagine hand feeding my big ornate Ruby lol, i kinda think i like my fingers the way they arehourly checking on a frog sounds a bit like OCD.
Grif got you covered. get hydrotherm plug it into heating and misting device, lights on a timer and all you need to do is to have someone to change water once and then you're back.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
Yeah, human blood is pretty nasty microbially speaking. And that's most of what Trevor would be eating if I tried to hand-feed her
Something that works well for older animals if they have to be left alone overnight, is having a second water dish to put in. I used to do this all the time with my snakes. Sometimes one of the dishes would be soiled by the time I got back, but never both.
were can i get a hydrotherm that can plug into a heat scource and fogger, can i buy it as a complete set im in the uk and dont have as much options as you guys in the states could you pass on any websites? cheres bud
You can get the Zoomed HygroTherm from amazon.com. I believe they'll ship to the uk.
Here you go. Zoo Med HygroTherm Humidity and Temperature Controller:Amazon:Pet Supplies
And here's the fogger. Zoo Med Reptile Fogger Terrarium Humidifier:Amazon:Pet Supplies
I know, it is dangerous, but I know some breeders where their frogs have actually become ill because of starvation, and when they were hand fed it was back to normal.
Its a day and a half.....am I missing something? Your frog will be fine. They're pretty hearty. I wouldn't put any crickets in. That could be mire detrimental than not feeding it for two days (its not detrimental....just making a point here) Just leave until you get back. Its fine to let them get hungry.

I wouldn't even think about worrying about my animals unless I'm going to be gone for over a week. All I do is just take out the water bowl (so it doesn't get unsanitary, only for frogs) and make sure the substrate is damp as always. Obviously, this would not be possible for frogs on paper towel substrates.
i would never dream to leave my animals unattended even having everything on controllers. I sure be perfectly fine leaving my snakes for 2-3 weeks if needed I'm ok with frogs not being fed for a week, but for a week unattended - never. water HAVE to be fresh, poop taken out asap. when I leave i like to know that my animals are not suffering and i will not be back and find sick or dead animal just because of improper care. I will never say it is ok to leave your animals unattended and will never be ok with people stating it is ok.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
Sometimes it pays to be overly cautious, but other times it can drive you insane haha. That's why I really didn't like keeping darts, I couldn't really go away for a weekend without having to have somebody check on them.
You know how it is. When you get frogs you take on a serious responcibility. They are so sensitive and even the slightest change will cause stress. My oldest female will only eat for me. If my wife tries she looks at her like "what do you expect me to do with that!" It's kind of funny, but I'm certain she would not eat for anyone else either. So having someone check on my animals would be all they could and water changes. Feeding woukd be out if the question.
A week is one thing. A day and a half is another. If the frog gets sick in 2 days due to humidity dropping 5-10%, then there are other issues that need addressing...also I guess I take for granted the ease of use with a hydrotherm.
Rhino doesn't need to be misted everyday. She's not on a hydrotherm setup. Her humidity stays perfect....I do check it everyday though and my wife knows when to supplement the humidity with misting.
I wasn't trying to be contrary, it just seemed weird that so much worry would be applied to leaving a frog for a day and a half.
