I was wondering if anyone knows, how big does xenopus laevis have to be to breed? I mean from snout to vent length?
The size of a sexually mature female may vary depending on if it is wild caught or captive bred. Wild caught females tend to be much larger. According to the University of Arizona IACUC, the female should be about 3 inches SVL. Look for the large, readily visible cloacal flap. Sexually mature males have blackened, nuptial pads on the inside of their fingers.
