Lighting and Electrical Questions

Hello.

So my wife and I have 5 100 Watt domes running 3 100 watt bulbs, and 2 60 watt bulbs. We have had a problem recently with bulbs blowing for what seems as no reason at all. I was wondering if I could get some help on the forums and maybe someone could answer my questions. First of all I have no education on electrical work but we have a small one bedroom home. All of the bulbs are plugged into various outlets. Could this be the reason? Should we invest in a power-strip? I'm hoping it is not the dome but this may be a possibility. Before I go out and buy a new dome does anyone think a power-strip will help this issue. Any other info on the subject would be GREAT help.

how many bulbs are burning out? how long do they last? are they the 60 or 100's? if they are all plugged into different outlets, then that kind of rules out electrical overload. i think plugging them into a standard power strip would actually overload the circuit of the power strip. 2 100w light bulbs would have a pretty significant power draw. oh, and how old are the domes? it may just be a case of defective bulbs, or bulbs that were vibrated too much at one time, closing the gap on the filament wire, which could lead to a short internally in the bulb and that would cause premature burnout. it's rare, but it can happen.

Thanks Bill. Today I got a ZooMed timer/power strip and some new bulbs. The domes are all under 5 months old. I'm pretty positive that it is the dome. Thanks for your help anyways, but I think I'll wait to see if this bulb burns out. The bulbs didn't quite burn out like a normal bulbs burning out. After I notice they are burnt out they are all black inside of the bulb. We use Exo Terra bulbs in the Fluker's domes. Thanks again.
