    Default new from california

Hi! I am a 3rd grade teacher from Southern California and I know very little about frogs...just that I loved the tiny green frogs living around Big Bear lake as a young girl. I have a fairly big aquarium and I would like to put frogs in it for my classroom of 3rd graders to enjoy and learn about. I am wondering what kind of frogs are the easiest to take care of? Are there any frogs that do not require a heater? Does keeping frogs cost a lot?
    Thank you!

    Hello again,
Do you know the name of this "tiny green frogs living around Big Bear lake " ?
Did it live in the water, on the ground or in/on the trees?
I found this site that might help to identify it:
    Identifying California Frogs and Toads
It is very possible you could find a breeder, enabling you to purchase a captive bread species once you identify it.
A visit to a local reptile/herp expo may help get you started.
Perhaps members living in Southern Cal. could help........maybe post a new thread in the "general Discussion ' area specific to this question.

As far as costs go. It can become costly. ( I can personally vouch for that ! ) However, depending on the species , costs could be kept under control with a simple environment the children could participate in creating. What a great project. Your idea about no need for heat is great, as this will eliminate the potential of an accident around young children.

welcome to the forum! what a great idea, i bet kids would love it! just a suggestion, have you considered getting a tadpoles and get kids watch them grow! I know for my daughter that was the very best experience ever as she said and when they will watch them get bigger and take care later.

    Welcome to the forum!
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!

I live in So cal as well, I go frog hunting all the time but usually I do it when I am fishing and nothing is biting. If you can send me a pic of these little frogs you speak of I may be able to help you identify them. And from there I can also help you find out if you can purchase captive born and where they are sold.
