It's been about a week since my frogs have had a nightcrawlers, been trying to 'culture' them so I've been feeding my frogs reptomin instead. They eat it, but not with as much gusto as live food.
Needless to say a week of them doing a rather frantic "feed me" dance every time I come near the tank and the fact they clump in the corner of the aquarium facing me at the couch stacked upon one another oddly staring at me with their little expressionless faces.. I finally broke down and fed them some nightcrawlers.
I fed my smallest frog the smallest worm, no problem there. I went to feed my other two larger frogs one of the bigger earthworms. Needless to say I saw them do something I've never seen before, both latched on to the worm and began a rather fierce tug of war. I thought one ripped the worm from the others mouth but apparently they tore the worm in half because they both settled down and appeared to be doing their little swallow while waving their arms routine.
I didn't take it because obviously I had no idea that would happen but I did find a rather similar video on YouTube though my frogs ripped the worm in half after about 3 or 4 seconds unlike the frogs in the video, which battled it out quite a bit longer.

Anyone ever have this happen? It was a little scary, those claws aren't for show and they use them pretty well.. I was really afraid they would injure each other or rake the others eyes. I'm going to be more careful in the future how I feel these guys..
What kind of earthworms do you feed them, like where do you get them? Are you talking about the same earthworms in the backyard in the dirt?
I use nightcrawlers that you can purchase from bait shops, they come 20 to a container. I then place them in a large plastic critter carrier with some pesticide free soil from a garden to keep them alive.
