So, I went to clean my Whites tree frog cage today and when I picked him up I noticed a dark red, almost blackish color right at the crack between his leg and body. I have no clue whats wrong with him. I will post a picture later when I am able too, but in the mean time. Is that something to worry about?
Yes, that is something to worry about... post a pic when you can, and today begin researching a vet in your area who is experienced in treating herps (specifically amphibians). If you can not find one, you can email Dr. Frye in MI with pictures, he can ship you meds.

What are symtoms to be looking out for? He ate 6 Crickets just an hour ago, and is still active.
A good appetite is always a very promising sign, so that's very good.
I would have no idea what so ever if it is red-leg, or some other type of infection. An examination by a vet is the only way to know for sure. Any sort of red or black mark or lesion, would immediately concern me. Make sure his environment is very clean, change out the water dish daily, wash the water dish in HOT water, with a clean paper towel, dry with a clean paper towel.... I assume you already know to treat the water with a conditioner, or use 100% spring water.
I suppose a very thin layer of NON-PAIN RELIVER neosporin can't hurt while you're finding a vet.
I would advise the vet visit immediately. Infections can proliferate very quickly, then it would be too late.

By the way, you should only feed at night, not during day time hours. White's are NOCTURNAL, and only hunt at night.... 'Stress,' in any form can make an infection worse by weakening the immune system. I would leave him alone for now, as long as the environment is appropriate and very CLEAN. You could even move him into a clean critter keeper, clean plain paper towels dampened with conditioned water, maybe a plant. Put the enclosure in a very quiet area.
Get him to a vet tomorrow.

I agree. Any dark or red lesions would need treated, preferably by a vet. If you call Dr. Frye, he will also need a photo. Use the original neosporin only, as recommended, and apply a small amount with a qtip daily. I think we'll need to know the cause to help more. A hospital tank is best to ensure cleanliness. Follow Bolisnides recommendations. Do you have a hero vet near that you can take him to?

Hi 1Dumpy:
I'm curious if you were able to find a vet in your area or email Dr. Frye?
I didn't intend to be offensive; I'm often told that I am when I'm only trying to help...
Anyway, hope your frog is doing ok?

Thank you for checking back, I think he is fine. Not quiet sure what was wrong with him. But I looked up some symtoms and he is perfectly fine according to websites (Active,Eating, drinking, sleeping) all that (:
Um, ok....
Do you have a photo of the mark you were concerned about yesterday? Are you applying non-pain reliever neosporin, and have him in a clean tank?
Please, please, take him to a vet or email dr. frye. When I needed a vet, and no one was available in my area, Dr. Frye was very helpful. He only charged me for the meds and the shipping.
Given you were also concerned about his weight, I wish you would consult a vet.

Dr. Frye is very nice and helped me heal most of my rescues. There is no vet fee, just the cost of any needed medications and shipping.
I'd really like to see a photo of the lesion. It's likely I'll be able to tell you what type of lesion it is and I'd be happy to help.

I noticed this black mark here tonight. His leg is normal, I honestly don't know why he is randomly getting black marks.(The thing on his left eye is just a shadow)
Hi,
You need to contact Dr Frye
Your frog needs a topical anti-viral, anti-bacterial medication / only Dr. Frye can supply.
Send those 2 photos to Dr Frye with your email.
For now, as suggested, use NON-PAIN RELIVER neosporin . ( It MUST be with out pain reliever--- the pain reliever could kill your frog)
Apply a very small amount / with a clean q-tip/ daily
BUT- you still need to get the other medication from Dr Frye.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Lynn
