Starforce2-I have to disagree with the “Bad thing about reptile shows is you sometimes need to just grab something if you think it's cool even if you know nothing about the animal (hate doing that) because you may never see them again” You are putting the animal at great risk when not prepared to house and care for such an animal. Also if it's that unusual, that may mean it doesn't do well in captivity. I would think twice before “grabbing” an animal without knowing it's requirements. IMO.

well this time around our reptile show is a 2 day event so if I find something I can make sure i know what it is and go back the next day. Given the fact that what I did buy from the guy wasn't healthy and died anyways it might not have made a difference, as all his animals may have had issues. Also, being as how the animal has been brought in from somewhere across the country in a plastic tub and left sit on a table for 4-6 hrs (the show is 6 hrs long..or at least it has been) plus the trip back to it's home if it doesn't sell, the animal is already "at risk" and within a day or so I can probably nail down the basics for most things, like temp, and even if I don't get the cage size right right away, that wont kill the animal. I actually scolded one guy for having several Uromastyx on the table all afternoon cold to the touch. No lights at all. There's a petland a mile or 2 away I can get materials in a snap if I lack something, like a heat lamp that wasn't big enough or wrong size food items.

Traveling with them to shows isn't as stressful as you may think if done properly. yes certain animals like the uros and other heat loving species need some sort of heat source for sure. id like to know what it was you bought and from who that died on you at the last show. Pm please with the info. I know the two main frog venders that were here and one is a very good guy and i have a few frogs from him while the other is a smuggling peice of trash that is know for peddling sick frogs.

well he was only at the first show 2 years ago, it was the spring show, and he was the only one with pyxies. Granted mine died due to a lack of enough heat as well but after it calmed down I had photo's of it up and people were telling me it was underfed and such. But due to their habit of puffing when mad it didn't show when I was there, who knows how many picked up the frog before me and made it angry. He would have been along the wall to the left as you walked in toward the corner.

Ok . That wouldn't have been either of them. Wrong placement for both vendors and neither has brought pixies. just someone with a few frogs and a bunch of other stuff im guessing. Must have either been the promoters table which took almost that whole wall or right next to them.

I don't know what else he had. a couple odd looking items that might have been a toad. But I haven't seen him or those beautiful green tree frogs since. He had only 2 pyxies when I was there.
