    Default Snails and ADF's?

    I am planning a planted 5
gallon for 1-3 Adf ( feel free to recommend how many) and I was wondering if I could keep a single mystery snail in with them? I figured the snail would clean up whatever the frogs don't. Fin d and they aren't aggressivessive feeders so they wont compete for food I wouldn't think ... but I am new to ADF's so any advice is appreciated

    Hi there
Mystery snails tend to get a bit larger than the frogs (1-2 in) if you are ok with that. i would reccomend a snail of you are going to have a community tank of ADFs and make sure to have biological filtration, my last ADFs passed away for that reason

    Good luck with your frogs!

I was originally planning a species only tank ( still debating it) but I thought the snail might be a good clean up crew as well as a nice little pop of color. I don't mind them getting big as long as everyone is happy

Biological filtration? I have an in-tank filter that will be cycled before the frogs go in as well as my tank will be at least moderately planted.

Sorry about my original message my phone was giving me a lot of complications

your best bet would be malaysian trumpet snails. they stay relatively small, and dig around in the substrate, keeping it aerated and clean.

I believe that was what I had a few months ago and I HATED them ... all they did was breed and I was very happy when I restarted my tank to get rid of those pests.. of course they could have been another trumpet snail but still I would rather not risk it

If you hated them for their breeding habits, then you will despise mystery snails. It will leave little egg sacs all over your tank. If you want a snail that absolutely will not breed, check out nerite snails. Very nice coloring and they cannot be bred in freshwater.

But mystery snails reproduce sexually so with only one I would not have to worry about babies ... at least if I remember correctly

that is very true. but remember a few things. one....there are no true male and female. and how many pet stores keep just one mystery snail in the tank? the odds of the one you pick out of the tank are high that will lay eggs the evening that you add it to the tank. i've had it happen to me and i have seen it happen to others. but, it's your tank.

Hmm ... You have given me a lot to think about ... Especially since I was iffy about even adding a snail ... Maybe if I decide on a snail I can find a tank in the store with only one ...
