Submersible pumps!

Ok, I am wanting to use my 20 gallon sump under tank for a water feature/fogger/mister. The only problem is all the pumps I seem to be able to find for misters are not submersible. IS there a way to make this work? Or do I just need to bite the bullet and buy a diaphragm style pump to run a mister? My display is already drilled(have a saltwater setup) with 2 holes and I wanted, in theory, to run all my lines UP through my drain, with a maxijet 900 I already have for a water feature. It would be GREAT if I could use the 20 gallon as a holding tank for all the features I'd like to have.

the problem is that the submersible pumps are all designed for low pressure. misting systems require high pressure, which of course, creates a lot of back pressure. that's where the submersibles fail. you already know i made a low pressure "rain system" and it works awesome, but it does not create the fine mist you are probably looking for. you could do a mistking system and just mount the pump outside of the sump.

Yea Bill, I'm finding that out! Been researching the "pumps" out there and I can do a stand mount for the pump. Can I just drop a line into the sump after that? Or will I have to drill my sump to attach a bulkhead? My brain hurts my friend!

nah, just drop a line in from what i understand. i have seen people who had them mounted above a bucket, so i can't imagine you would need to do much more. i actually have been thinking about trying to build a diy version utilizing a fuel pump for a car. runs off of 12vdc, they run regulated high pressures, so i know they can handle the back pressure. i just haven't decided what make and model i want my mister to be. LOL

Also, when I set up my first viv for anoles, I had a DIY misting system that ran off a pump sprayer, like the kind you used to spray fertilizer or insecticides on your yard. The thing worked GREAT! Just can't find it anywhere.
