Hello Everyone,
I am planing on going to the Hamburg reptile expo on Feb. 23 an am hoping to get some Dubia roaches. I was wondering what kind of bulb to use to heat them.
Thank for you help.
You can heat them with a red or even "night time" black bulb, a heating pad, or heat tape. You can regulate temps with a dimmer.
My back is about as straight as a question mark, so human heating pads in my house are about as common as the tiles on the floor. They work really well; if you can find one without a shut-off you'll be golden. Roaches are really easy to keep. In my opinion, it's more about hydration than it is about heat. If you have a heating pad then all you have to worry about is keeping them well-fed with fruits, veggies, and protein-rich chow, along with water crystals.
After that just leave them to themselves in darkness, and you're good!
I find that black light bulbs are the best i use 100-150 watt bulbs. I tried the heat pad thing and it was not very efficient mainly because my bins are quit large if you had a very small bin it may work better. If you want them to breed well the hotter the better. They do their best between 90-105. I wouldnt go any higher then that. 80 degrees they seem to breed ok but much slower. Hydration is also very important as before mentioned in this thread. And with a light you will need to pay closer attention to moisture then with a pad. The bin tends to become dry faster. But if you have a water cryistal dish then you wont have any problems just add a little more water to the cryistals when they start shrinking and problem solved.
