    Question Adf filtration?

What filter do you use in your ADF tank? I know they can't have filters that vibrate like sponge filters ( or rather the bubbles really( and they aren't strong swimmers so most In tank and HOB filters can be a problem ... so what do you do?

I was personally considering a HOB with a sponge filter fitted over the intake ... but I am very curious to see other options

I would go with a sponge filter, underwater is a very noisy place regardless and I would wager sponge filters don't make that much noise and won't bother ADF at all. People use them all the time with shrimp tanks because they are gentle, so they are plenty gentle for your frog.

I guess it all depends on how large your tank is.
    Mine is a 46g bowfront
I have a fluval 405 set to 1/2 of its capacity.
and I have a 5inch airstone in the back middle of the tank that
is regulated by my patented system that keeps the head pressure low as possible on the
    air pump.
a two gang valve with one valve going to the air stone in the tank and the other valve
connected to a small plastic air stone that is out side of the tank acting as a muffler.
This way I can extend the life of the air pump

    How large is your tank.
if it is a 10 gallon I recommend a hang off the back filter that has a flow control very important.
under 10 gallons I would use a internal sponge filter that is driven by a fine air stone so the bubbles are small.
also use a dual gang valve set to regulate the flow of air to it to keep the noise down.
and make sure to get a check valve that has a filter in it it will extend the life of your air stone.

i wish sponge filters were more readily available here ... every kit comes with a weak little HOB filter and its cheaper here to buy the kit than to buy the hood and tank separately so its like ... okaaaayyy ....

Sponge or any air driven filters are great, you can also use any filter rated for your tank as the ratings are always wrong as long as the filter has the ability to be dialed down. So a filter that says rated for 10 gallons and you have a 10 gallon and the filter has adjustable flow. Keep it on the lowest setting. Using live plants is also great in a ADF tank. There are many easy low maintance plants out there.

I order all my sponge filters from Ebay. A lot of the overseas sellers sell them cheap with free shipping. Well worth a look.
