I don't have a frog at this time, but I intend to get a White's tree frog this summer, so I'm trying to absorb all the information I possibly can. I know that handling a frog is stressful for the frog and should be kept to a minimum with wet (non-soaped,non-chlorinated) hands, but there are going to be times where I have to pic him up, whether its for tank cleaning, putting him in a mobile tank for a vet trip or what have you. Whatever the reason, I want it to be positive for all involved so what is the proper way to pick up a frog? Pics would be awesome!! Thank you![]()
I always use latex exam gloves that are powderless that are wetted with dechlorinated water.
If you are transporting a single frog to the vet. I use a small plastic cup that has a lid with
a few holes for ventilation with a paper towel wetted with chlorinated water.
I place the cup in the enclosure with the lid in one hand and gently cup my hand over the frog
then slip a finger under and the frog will climb on my hand and then I place it in the cup and
put the lid on carefully as to not to pinch the frogs fingers.
Well, if you are getting a adult white (dumpy) tree frog, pick it up by its stomach or body, then put it in your other hand to cradle its hind and front legs. If you are getting a young white tree frog, ease it into the feeling of being held. Whatever you do, do not shake it off or make it feel rushed. Let it naturally leap off your hand. I prefer using latex gloves that are moistened when holding my frog,Eddie.
