    Default P. Terribilis Temperture help

    Hi everyone!

My name is Chris and I have spent about 2 weeks reading as much as I can about PDFs and I really like the P. Terribs especially the orange or yellow ones. I plan on making my tank very soon and picking up some frogs at an expo with my big brother. I have tropical fish aquariums and want to convert to PDFs.

    Questions:
    1. In Southern California - Inland Empire and the temp can reach up to 110+ degrees here and around 86-90 degrees in the house with no AC. I know AC is an option but running that 24/7 is going to cost a ton of money.
I was thinking investing in a portable AC unit and keep the frogs and future frogs in one bedroom, but I would also like a show tank in the living room in the future. I have read a lot of articles and information online about Poison Dart Frogs, PDF enclosures, food, heating, using distilled and/or RO/DI water, but I always get stuck on the cooling part. I read about frozen water bottles on top of the tank and utilization of fans etc. and I would prefer a more fail proof idea or implimentation because I work Mon - Fri 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM. Sorry this is getting so long, but I need advise from experts who have taken care of P. Terribs that live in hot locations and what they do to deal with the hot weather 100+ degrees with 86-90 degrees in the house in the most economical way. If any expert, novice, someone with useful information can help that would be great. I read they are super sensitive to heat than most other PDFs so I need as much options as you can think of. Feel free to send me an email as well to yahsekiya@gmail.com and thank you!

    Solutions:
    1. Get an AC unit for confine the frog enclosure(s) to one bedroom and forget the living room enclosure (I would rather not do the frozen water bottle method unless the results are great and worth the extra hassle).
    2. Go with different types such as Azuerus, Tincs, Leucs (I would rather not, but if I have to then I will).
    3. I know about raising the lights 3-4 inches and reverse the light schedule ( our night becomes frog's daytime and vice versa), but if there anythign else I can do such as putting on the floor?

Welcome to the forum Chris. If I were you I would get a AC unit for one room and keep the ambient temp about 75-76 degrees. I would also use LED lighting to keep your lighting temp to a minimum.
