Can I use this setup as cricket breeding cage?

I think it will be just fine for breeding crickets.
Getting the newly hatched crickets out is the trick

You may want to keep the soil portion (for egg deposit) in a separate container that they can climb into easily.


If you do a FF search , there are lots of great threads and photos.

seperate container? then how small should I and also will they lay eggs in cocofiber? and also how many crickets do you think can fit in there? 2pairs?(2males , 2 females) one of the crickets died the pet store gave me a dying one without noticing it.

Here is a method I am trying for the first time.


The only difference between this set-up and my usual set up is ....I have covered the the -dampened- coco fiber with fiber glass screening. I saw this recently ? somewhere. So, I don't know how the screen is going to work. The screen does not need to be there. I'm just curious as to how this will work.

The container with the dampened coco fiber needs to be shallow and they need a 'ladder'.
When the babies hatch ( keep in mind - they are fully developed ) they just start , well ........running around
It might be very difficult to get them off the bottom of the bin if it's covered w/ cocoa fiber ?
Plus the coco fiber needs to be damp for egg laying. This could promote mold if the entire bottom is covered ?

The bottom is covered up with coco fiber(coir) as seen in the pic and also thanks for the tips.
