    Hello,
I think it will be just fine for breeding crickets.
Getting the newly hatched crickets out is the trick

You may want to keep the soil portion (for egg deposit) in a separate container that they can climb into easily.

If you do a FF search , there are lots of great threads and photos.

    Hello Again,
Here is a method I am trying for the first time.

The only difference between this set-up and my usual set up is ....I have covered the the -dampened- coco fiber with fiber glass screening. I saw this recently ? somewhere. So, I don't know how the screen is going to work. The screen does not need to be there. I'm just curious as to how this will work.

The container with the dampened coco fiber needs to be shallow and they need a 'ladder'.
When the babies hatch ( keep in mind - they are fully developed ) they just start , well ........running around
It might be very difficult to get them off the bottom of the bin if it's covered w/ cocoa fiber ?
Plus the coco fiber needs to be damp for egg laying. This could promote mold if the entire bottom is covered ?
    Keep things warm!

I throw in about 6 females , and of course their company !

Hi there. Your set up should work, but there are a couple things you could do to make it work better. I think someone else already mentioned this, but it is best to have a separate container for the eggs to be laid in. It keeps things neater because you'll only have substrate in one place. You can use a small shoebox or a sandwich container to be the "nest". Then, it is also good if you can get a wire screen mesh to cover the nest with. The reason for securing mesh on top of the nest is to protect the eggs from the male crickets. The crickets can and will dig into the substrate and cause damage to the eggs. They may even eat the eggs. So, if you can get a hold of some screen mesh, use it! Don't use a plastic mesh though. The crickets can easily chew through plastic.

You're off to a good start! Hope these tips help
