    Default turkish gliders that fly?

I have been culturing the same ( original ) batch of turkish gliders (curly wing melanogaster) ? since Oct.
I have notice, recently, that some are quite proficient at - well- flying !
They can fly all the way across the enclosure!

    I also culture hydei.

I think I've mucked up the gene pool ?

That happens with melos sometimes. Although, Turkish Gliders are a winged morph. They tend to produce very well, but, they, well, glide. Hahahah
Melos do get mucked up easily though. They're really easy to turn into flighted varieties. If you're concerned about it (like they keep escaping???, hate that!) then i'd just start all over. I really really really love one of the melo varieties from BJ. They always produce super well for me, but I have no idea what they're called. Hahahah

As for hydei, bless you! I keep crashing my cultures. I need to get some going again.

So I suppose that wasn't helpful!

    Good luck,
    Alex

    Hi Alex

You're right... I edited that ( my apologies :: )...I originally said "wingless". What I meant to say is........ they are flightless. Important little detail! I clarified ( post #1) because this is actually, very interesting. To me, anyway. It's s nice change from having spent my day with pregnant, diabetic women.

    --------------------------

I purchased a "wingless" melanogaster ( I least don't see wings/ I only see them crawl ) very recently at a herp shop
and have had the D hyei for months ( since at least August).

John or Glen gave me the 'turkish gliders' (curly wing - mela ?) in October at the Hamburg show in PA. They have obvious wings, and buzz. These are larger than my new "wingless" melanogaster .

It's these , the 'turkish gliders' (curly wing - mela ?) I think have 'taken flight' ?
I think what may have happened is : a hyei got into a 'turkish glider' culture? It's quite obvious the gliders are flying!

I'm no fruit fly expert, and have no microscope ....but:
The turkish gliders and the wingless mela do not look like the same fly to me.

They , both, culture very easily in either of 2 medias..... I have ( Alpha Pro and and Josh Frog's)

    Yikes - that's all very confusing---isn't it !

The only media that I have luck with for the hyei is Josh Frog's
It takes a little longer and they need to be warmer

Not to change the subject..... but .....No one had these at White Plains on the 6th? either
These frogs are so beautiful in person---photos never look good

I see AlphPro has a nice selection of frogs ! The reeds are beautiful !

Hahah. That all makes sense now... I think? Hahah.

I would just restart a culture if you're worried about them. They two forms look quite different. Those wingless ones look like creepy little ants! Hahah

As for the Mint Terribilis, i've only seen them there once before (and I bought them!). Black Jungle sometimes has the orange flavor and Jeremy and Tim had the yellow guys last show but the mints rarely show up unless LLL has them.

Either way, i'm looking for them as well!

John / Michael / and Greg were trading frogs for mints in Oct.
    I wonder who had them?
