Mixing Xenopus species!??

There is a saying in the aquarium hobby that I firmly believe in: "When in doubt, leave it out."

X. Laevis will eat anything that will fit in it's mouth, be it fish or frog or anything it finds edible for that matter. Their care is similar but if you want my opinion, set up a separate tank for each species.

What about putting a plexi-glass divider in the larger tank to separate the species and drilling small holes in the plexi that the water could pass through easily enough but that are small enough that the frogs cannot fit through? That way you will have one large tank to deal with, but you can keep the species from mixing. If their care is pretty much the same, but you are worried about one eating the other, it might be the fix you are looking for.

I don't think I would risk my Muelleri if I had any.(would love some by the way) When taking on another species you should always be prepared for the long haul of keeping them seperate. If you think your male is too little, he probably is. If you are keeping them under the same conditions(temp, filter, etc) I think the devider is a great idea. I would not use something temporary or removable though as critter find a way through that stuff ALWAYS. Silicone in some glass or plexi like Sarah discribed. That would make water changes, heating, filtering go a lot smoother.
