Uvb, yes or no?

I'v heard both yes and no from people at pet stores and some care sheets say they need it and some dont. Iv had my dumpys for a couple months and they have been fine eating and growing without one, but should I get one? Are they supposed to have them? Or are they fine without them?

Whites Tree frogs are nocturnal, and do not require UVB. Most LIZARDS need them to grow and absorb calcium...but nocturnal animals are fine without.

I was told by our measly little towns pet store that my gray tree frog didnt need UVA but UVB was beneficial...I didnt have any light at all for the first 9 months of having her, but now I have a daylight blue bulb mostly to warm up the enclosure. I want to know what kind of light I can use at night just so I can see what she is up too. Is there a light that mimics the moon?

Pet stores sell a blue light that is suppose to mimic moonlight, but I believe that any sort of blue, green, and possibly red light would work.

Most people use heating pads on the bottom or the side of their tank to help keep the temps up. I live in a pretty warm area so I personally dont have experience with this. (Maybe someone else can help.) Lights in my opinion are not the best because they reduce humidity. If you decide to continue heating with lights then make sure the light is not touching the lid of the enclosure because the frog can burn itself on it.

For night viewing I use this: Exo Terra : Products : Night Glo

I tried a low watt red bulb for night viewing but it seemed to bother the animals. So far the blue has been fine.

I think I can remember a post somewhere by Kurt saying he doesnt care for using red lights...maybe I am mistaken. What kind of heating pad do you use Julia? Like a regular one for people or a special kind designed for this kind of use? My frog isnt a tropical species and its temps and humidity dont need to be particularly high but room temp is only around 68 F so I like to boost it up some.

Yeah not a fan of red lights, except at concerts. I think it is BS that people think frogs can't see red light. I am pretty sure they are not color blind. Even if they were they could still see the light period, it just wouldn't registar as red in their little froggie brains.

I dont use heating pads for my frogs. I have a reptile room which has 3 desert tank set ups in it. Because all the desert tanks have heat lamps and under tank heating the whole room keeps around 80+ degrees during the day. I have heard that using under tank heating pads are just as bad as heat rocks. There is a chance that they could overheat and burn the animals. (For reptiles anyways.) Frogs are much more sensitive so I assume they would move if the heat pad got too hot? I use the exo terra heat pads for my reptiles and have not had any problems, so for frogs I would recommend this:

This will be my next purchase for Chester. We've had him a month and I keep his area warm with the use of a space heater sitting about 24 inches away from the bottom of the tank. It's going to cost a fortune to keep the space heater running so can't wait to get the pad you suggested.
