Default My Mossy Frog,,new to this and need advice pls

Hi all,,im new to having frogs,,i have had lizards and snakes in the past but my partner bought me a vietnameese mossy frog for xmas. I just need some advice on the best set up pls

temp,,housing,,breeding,,,how do i sex the frog,,,can i let him live with other mossy frogs,,,can he live with red eye tree frogs,,best to feed him

right now he just sits in the corner of the glass tank and never seems to move. i have been feeding him mini crickets and meal worms as this it what the breeder advised. he is in a smallish tank which is 1ft wide, 1ft tall and 8inch deep,,,it has a small strip light across the top, about 3inch of mossy on the bottom, a plastic bowl to hold water about 2 inch deep with a large stone in...a branch and some plastic tree things, and then the heat mat is on the outside of the tank on the back and is half the height of the tank and the same width.

Something tells me that this is not sufficient enough,,so help would be great.

I would also like to find him a friend so if anyone knows a good breeder close the the gloucestershire area that would be good too.

    Many thanks, Sam

Hello and Welcome! If you have yet to notice, Mossy Frogs do not have a huge amount of care information out there. They are still considered "NEWer" to the hobby. Here is some good info from FF... http://www.frogforum.net/other-frogs...g-care.htmlRed eyed tree frogs would NOT mix with these guys. The heat required for a RETF would cause a Mossy heat stress. The care for them is very different from any other tree frog. I have had mine for almost a month and I am still learning. I also have a build thread going on what my enclosure that is being built. Oh and on the breeding, I have yet to read any great articles on how to get them to breed. They say they like to attach the eggs to rocks in cave areas.

Opps...I forgot the feeding question...I raise roaches, so mine eats small roaches with cricket being a treat.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

The mossies don't need any heating so roomtemperature should be fine. They do want things to climb on and lot's of water so an aquaterrarium is recommended.
You really need to get a bigger tank for him because even if mossy frogs don't move around alot during daytime they do when it gets dark.

As NatureLady said, don't mix these with other frogs. That's never a good idea.

I feed mine dubia roach nymphs but small crickets should work good too. Be sure to gut-load them for extra nutrition for your frog.
