    Default Joaz Changing Colors

I love that C. Joazeirensis change colors so much. My female Joaz, Luciferin, seems to change colors more often and more drastically than my male, Mycena. Usually she is very dark, so dark she is almost black.

Sometimes during the day she lightens significantly. Today when I came home she was a light grey/silver color. It's crazy how much they change!

I never know what color she will be next!

I really like her colors when she lightens up!

Just a quick question, but are pacman frogs with this color pattern common?
A local pet store is selling one for $15, and I've never seen one like that in a store before.

No this species is not common and don't appear in pet shops often. Actually they hardly appear in stores at all, but occationally pop up. C. joezeirensis are rare and not from the same area of South America that C. cranwelli, C. ornata, and C. aurita are from. They are from the Caatinga region. This is also why they are called the Caatinga Horn Frog in the pet trade. They are priced much higher than $15.00, but are still affordable. Send Mike a PM and he may be able to give you some exact pricing.

Just to add C. aurita are possibly the most rare and are significantly higher in price than the other species.

    very cool
I'm going to look further into this species. I have seen color changes in my frogs but nothing to that extent thank you for sharing the pics.

Do you think it's possible that the pet store just doesn't know what they have? Bc I'm positive that's the species that I saw there.

I'm going back tomorrow to get crickets and may buy it if it's still there.

Some c. Cranwelli look close in color to caatinga. Don't make a impulse buy unless you are sure its caatinga.lol. That would be hitting the lotto. There's only 1 breeder in the USA for them. I plan on breeding mine later this year so, I might be the second breeder in the usa.

Still a very hard to come by species

I agree with Mike. Don't buy unless you're certain.

You could ask the pet store to see the frog and ask if they'll let you take some pics. Most will oblige. Then post the pics here so we can determine species for you.

Well I went in and the pacman was gone. Said they sold it yesterday. It was replaced with a pretty cute strawberry albino that's a little smaller than a quarter. Oh well

Well in any case you now know that this store recieves some of the higher quality species and morphs so I would keep an eye on their frogs to see if another one shows up.
