I just like the look of the bark. For now at least i'll be feeding with tongs or in another container so it shouldn't be a problem. And I can always change it later if i want. Thanks for the ideas![]()
I was thinking it would be cool to have a peice of wood with moss growing on it or moss that could grow on the bark background or something. Is this possible to have?
You have to be careful with any moss. If accidentally ingested it can cause an impaction, but it can be done. You may want to start it outside the enclosure so you are sure the moss is attached. You will also need a tropical moss most likely because moss from temperate climates will normally die in a tropical climate.
Any plant placed inside with you frog will have to be purged of all fertilizers and chemicals. To do so you will need to take the desired plant and wash it off really well. Then plant in a pot with plain soil. Even in just coco fiber is fine and it must stay this way for up to 4 weeks to be sure everything is flushed out of the plant's system. This must be done before the plant can be placed in with your frog. Also nearly all plants are toxic to frogs and Pathos are no exception. Always be sure that any dead leaves are removed immediately and be sure your frog does not ingest any part of the plant. They will not harm the frog as long as it is not ingested.
It is safe to feed your frog by leaving crickets in with him/her over night. Just remove the hind legs from the crickets so that they cannot jump. This makes them much easier to catch and will greatly reduce substrate ingestion.
So good newsThe frog just ate 4 crickets! Which leads me to a couple questions. First, the frog wouldn't let me feed it with tongs but when i put them in the tank he ate them no problem. So is it safe to eat on the coconut fiber? Can he digest it if he accidentally eats little bits of it? Second question is how much should I feed him? He's about 2 1/2 maybe 3 inches.
congratulations!
for that size i would go every other day using 15 min rule - let him eat as many as he can in 15 min.
as for tongs, not every frog is used to it, you can try to train him to eat like that, it may take loads of patience and persistence from your part, he might or might not get used to it, but right now just make sure he is eatingthere is a excellent video by Ivory on how to tong feed, will try to find it.
oh and for mosses- as Grif said be careful, they should be out of frog reach, there is a mixture out of mosses spores and i think some kinda glue. you paint a something with it and mosses will start growing, I'm planning on getting that for my nasuta tank, there should be something similar for sale in US too
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
Hmm i'll have to try to find something like that, sounds interesting
If you're not tong feeding, probably hold off on the pothos plant. Like Grif said, they can be poisonous if the frog eats them. If a cricket happens to be crawling across a leaf and your frog decides that's a good time to bite at it, it could easily ingest part of the plant...
Ok I have another questions. I've been reading mixed things on how often to feed him and would like to know what you guys have to say. So if i'm using the 15 minute rule to feed him, how often should i do it? Every other day?
Ok thank you!

Ok I'm sorry it took so long to update but i've been way sick for a while. Since I'm feeling a little better today i decided to go pick up a repti fogger and hygrotherm. So far its working great. I also have some picturesI swear the frog has grown already!
