That would be google. Lol i spend more time researching various species and biotopes than i do id'ing plants. But if i had to pick one that i use most, it would be exotic angel's website. They are the grower that a lot of the big box stores utilize.

But how toxic would they be to the frogs if the crickets munched on the plants before the frogs munched on the crickets?

That would depend on the plant and how much found it's way into the frog by way of the crickets. You'll probably be hard pressed to find any concrete data on anything like this, but for example it makes sense to avoid feeding your frogs anything that's been devouring toxic plants, like tomato hornworms found on the tomato plant in your garden, or milkweed bugs found on your milkweed.

I've seen this as an excuse to leave dieffenbachia out of the frog enclosure, but there are also plenty of reports from people using it for years with no issues. It's not a plant I use, as I find Bills advice to keep it out of the reach of furry pets virtually impossible in my case (mine can sense any lapse in plant security and come rushing to eat whatever they can get to), and it's a particular nasty one for cats from my understanding.

"If in doubt, leave it out" is always a safe motto if you are unsure. There are plenty of extremely well tested options out there that you can err well on the side of caution and still have a plethora of planting options.

oh, i definitely agree with Brian, if you are unsure or uncomfortable with a plant, then definitely leave it out. there are SO many plant species out there to choose from, not just the ones we mention here on the forum.

as for the case of crickets munching on it and poisoning the frog that way, there's no way to answer it except for saying that having crickets running around the enclosure that the frogs haven't eaten, is never really a good thing for the frogs. crickets are nasty and they bite the frogs, which can lead to all sorts of very bad things happening.

I use this site called eol.org and it helped me through my plant ID class. I love this site for plants and animals. It doesnt have all the plants and information, but some of them are really good. Plus you can make plant lists and share them with people!
