I'm Emily. I've always been into frogs. For my 19th birthday my mom got me a complete set of stuff for my car with frogs on it: seat covers, steering wheel cover, lisence plate holder...even a trash can. My friends buy me socks with frogs on them for -every- holiday. I'll buy anything with a frog on it. I really like frogs, but until about a month ago I'd never owned one.
My boyfriend knew from the start I'm a little crazy. Obsessed, maybe. When I met him I told him I had a few geckos. By a few I meant 30. Geckos. And a few snakes. And some spiders. and other bugs. And the 'normal' furry pets. And my collection wasn't finished growing. I'd always wanted a box turtle and a gargoyle gecko. And a kingsnake. And I'd still never had a frog.
Last Chrismas he gave me an Exoterra cage. Then he gave me a baby gargoyle gecko for my birthday. Then, right before Christmas I found the most adorable animals ever..little grey treefrogs! Sure, we'd had green and white's treefrogs in stock when I worked at Petco, but I didn't know grey frogs existed. Unfortunately I had to spend the rest of the driving so I couldn't get them. I looked at every pet store in my area a few days later and nobody had them. I offered bribes and finders fees, but nobody would order them.
A few weeks ago we were driving by the pet store that had had them, so we stopped in. They had some! They were on sale!! I spent about fifteen minutes staring at them and weirding other customers before I picked two out. We named them Chris and Bernard after characters on a show we had been watching. They're perfect little froggies. They watch everything that happens at night, call every night, and they're really outgoing when it comes to eating. One of them has a favorite branch he sits on in the front of the cage to wait for crickets. People visiting doesn't bother them at all- they'll even eat in front of a crowd.
I "didn't want them to be lonely," so I got a pair of firebelly toads to "keep them company" in the tank next to them about a week ago. Then I got a pacman frog from a girl who was moving and couldn't take any of her pets with her. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with a 29 gallon terrarium that's been sitting empty in our living room for the last month. Dart frogs are pretty cute....
Obsessed? Maybe.
